Tyson lands enough early to the body to take usyks legs away, competitive fight but Tyson takes him out in the middle rounds, possibly down on the cards. Would be best win of Tyson’s career
Those were very good body punches Joshua landed, though. I thought they would have more effect. When was he floored by a body punch as a pro?
Leonard was out on his feet when sparring for Hagler, so if that's evidence I guess he was poorly prepared too. And inswell wouldn't have saved Tyson. He was around his usual weight and took 10 rds of punishment before going out. Not the signs of abysmal shape to me.
Tyson had gained & lost a good deal of weight. Like Ali vs. Holmes & Jeffries long ago, rapid weight loss tends to drain energy & strength. And Tyson unlike them was not training hard & trying to live in a healthy way. Appearances can be deceiving-like a weightlifter ready for a heart attack, with little cardio capacity, &/or damaged by PEDs.
One of the reasons I feel Usyk is overrated. Joshua's bodywork in the second fight was scare and inconsistent imo but when he actually went to the body it was highly effective and slowed Usyk down. One of the things that made Ali as great as he was, as JT1 mentioned is that nobody took it to the body like he did. Other cute boxers could be slowed down by body shots. Ali was seemingly impervious to them. Usyk quite evidently did not have Ali's unreal durability against body punches so I think it's quite the stretch for him to be a massive favorite against the likes of Liston, and Foreman, which he definitely seems to be on this forum.
If you type in Usyk's knockdowns on YouTube, your see he was floored with a straight bunch to the body, although I'm not entirely sure if it was one of them WSB fights Usyk had. But again the fight was with no headgear so make of that what you will. But I still think it shows some consistency, that Usyk can be vulnerable to the mid section, because it's quite rare to see a top fighter be put down numerous times with body shots.
I was Ringside twice when Tyson fought Ruddock and Tyson was already not firing on all 8 anymore but he landed in both bouts consistent nasty body shots who took some major steam out of Razor and it literally sounded like small gun shots when he landed...........he broke/fractured Ruddocks ribs.....Tyson will have a field day with his body/upper cut combo against Usyk.
Yeah, I heard that story. He partied all the time and couldn't be bothered to train, but somehow he had the discipline to cut a lot of weight even though he didn't have to. Sorry, don't buy it for a second. It's just so obviously manufactured to cover all angles and just plainly doesn't make sense.
I don't think it slowed Usyk down more than for the moment. Joshua landed a good amount of hard, well-placed body shot in the 9th and Usyk did seem to be struggling, but in the 10th he came back and had maybe his best round of the fight and continued strongly to the end, so I didn't see any lasting effects. Ali was also temporarily effected by lighter punchers such as Mildenberger and Norton, but also seemed to shake the effects off pretty quickly.
The one in WSB seemed to be an elbow against elbow situation, but the two body KD:s in the ams were legit. Yeah, might be worth a rethink. The 20 or so lbs he has put on since then seems in a large part be around the waist, though, so that could be in a conscious effort to strengthen that part.
Lol!! So much coping going on with the Usyk haters Well Tyson was taken to school by the 2nd greatest Cruiserweight ever so, I don’t see why the Cruiserweight GOAT couldn’t outbox him. Considering he has better footwork and angles than Holyfield, he’s a lefty with an underrated straight, and has the range and jab to keep Tyson at bay. Prime Tyson was good but overrated. Usyk UD in a competitive fight.
How can it not ? Usyk proved incredible heart to go with terrific chin ... that said the prime Tyson so much faster than AJ, a different match up entirely .. I still like Mike ..
For me, Usyk is the better P4P fighter. However, it would just have been a horrible stylistic match up for him. He has nothing what would have deterred Mike from constantly pouring forward. Yes, Usyk is better than Douglas. But that’s not how things work. Boxing just isn’t as simple and as straight forward as that. Also, Buster had a great jab from a huge 83” reach, and Mike was gassed after 5 rounds in a fight which wasn’t fought at a fast pace, simply because he didn’t have enough stamina through a lack of training. So: You’re looking at a completely different stylistic opponent, and a version of Mike who didn’t fight to his full capabilities. Therefore, the Douglas fight isn’t really relevant when looking at a fight with Usyk. Douglas stopped Mike from coming forward, in a way which Usyk couldn’t have, even though Usyk was superior to Douglas. Mike would have backed Usyk up and put him on the defensive.
