His inability to be a great fighter on his own hurts his legacy, most great fighters were still great after switching trainers or teams. However at his 87-88 peak I think he was just as good as he looked or pretty close. But he wasn't able to maintain it without his Catskill family around him because he apparently needed them to "lean on". Hurts his legacy, but for that short time where circumstances were ideal he was THAT good. Then again many fighters never had the opportunity to be adopted by an ATG Trainer and be basically raised to be HW champ.
Only Ali head to head (both in prime) would I put money on over Tyson. Ali would be better suited to beat Tyson after his exile because he was bigger and more experienced. Ali wouldn’t be able to be backing up fighting Tyson
