    :patsch:patsch

    don't act dumb bernie.

in the same manner, i do not consider JMM prime at 135 considering he defeated a much older casa and feather fisted juan.

just imagine, morales was 5'8 with a 72 inch reach advantage. He could have gone up earlier in weight when he was 26/27 years old but he had great wars with mab and Pac.

and it took a lot out of him.

if EM chose to go up earlier, i think he would still have been a force to reckon with.

Bernie I think Barrera was smarter at 126 but you are right about him being much more aggressive and ferocious at JF,and unlike others I dont think the improvement was Big time like others do. He gave up a his ferocious style alittle bit,but i think he gained more patience and utilized his boxing skills more so he actually gave up a great attribute but gained an even bigger attribute when he moved up to 126. bigger strength . Get what im saying?

Marquez fought Norwood back in 99. SO that dont count. Anyways I agree that we are pretty much splitting hairs here.

    Morales by UD.

Just as good a technician, taller, longer reach, hits harder, punches at least as fast (I say faster at his peak), takes a better shot, higher workrate, can switch from boxing to brawling & back more easily & can raise his game to a higher level better than JMM when things arent going their way.

Morales might have been an entertainer but his skills were A+ too, it would be a good fight as Marquez was a true elite himself but Morales wins 7-5 or 7-4-1 at their peaks.

Marquez was alot more slicker in his younger days and he was faster, faster than Morales i have to disagree with you. I think the Poll and the posters of ESB have underestimated Marquez big time. Maybe because they are partial to Morales having more Classic exciting fights. I think this is an even match fight. Ive been watching Marquez since he was an unknown prospect and he was a fast and a very well schooled fighter in only his 10th fight he fought alot of his career under Forum Boxing in Ingelwood i knew hed be a champ since the first time i saw him. He reminded me of Salvador Sanchez.
Now i wont go that far to say he was as great as Sanchez but he is probably a 1st or 2nd ballot HOF. No way should Morales be ahead of this ballot 77% to 23%. I dont know if everyone is overrating Morales or Underrating Marquez:?

The part I highlighted usually goes AGAINST Morales, the fans that only seen some of his biggest/latest fights dont realise what a fantastic technical boxer he was.... he wouldnt be outboxed by JMM & IMO he would get the better of it when they had to slug it out, a peak Morales could also fight at a high pace for an entire 12 rds, he would be a bad opponent for Marquez, of course JMM wouldnt be an easy opponent for Erik but my money would be on Erik Morales for sure.

If Morales were to pull this out there is no way its 7-4-1 thats to wide! ive seen guys fight Morales just as close who were not even in Marquezs league. I think these 2 are as evenly matched as Barrera and Morales there wouldnt be much seperating the 2.

    Why ? :huh

Because he is behind in a poll vs another ATG fighter, a fantastic fighter like Erik Morales ?

Start learning the game before typing nonsense :good

I saw the first fight live and ive seen on TV numerous times and not once did I see where Morales deserved the 1st fight. Close fight yey but i think Barrera clearly edged it out. I agree Morales deserved the 2nd fight.

Me too but Morales always raises his game for higher level opposition, he would know he cant afford to entertain too much vs Marquez, he would have his technical head on for this one, Erik is a really smart fighter when faced with danger. Marquez is certainly a danger.

If we are talking about a PRIME Morales, as the thread title indicates, there's no way for Marquez to pull it off. Marquez was as devious and vicious a technician as they come, but he is simply, utterly, and hopelessly outgunned against an undrained Morales. I can see a few dozen uppercuts slashing through JMM's otherwise tight guard, and a KD or two along the way, to seal the 8-4 for Erik.

I don't know if Marquez was at 126 during '02, but this would have been the prime of El Terrible'.
