Shane was by far the most exciting fighter to watch prior to be being beaten by Vernon. He`s only problem was he was too small to make a dent on the really big welters or light middles. Forrest was a middleweight who fought at 47. He had too much of a reach too much of a negative style and too big a punch for an aggressive come forward power slugger like Shane.

If the guy is coming in ripped on fightnight at 160 I'd debate that he was too small to make an impact, his height/reach werent tiny.

I would actually point to it being some stylistical weaknesses with his defense that top boxers like Winky/Forrest could exploit, sure the range they had on him helped but if his defense was tighter he'd have less problems. For instance if he had a tighter defense, was better at slipping the jab he doesn't get outboxed. Delahoya didnt have the same quality defense or boxing skill these 2 had but was similar size wise

Also his stamina seemed to fade after the Forrest fights

Shane by decision in a close one. HIs workrate was just too much. Floyd would not be able to bang with him so he would drop back and try to outbox him and Shane's agression would win the fight on the cards.

Mayweather wide UD. Just a higher class fighter all round. Shane Mosley at 135 is one of the most overrated fighters in history. If you disagree then please, enlighten me...

Who the **** did he ever beat at lightweight????

He had 1 good win - Philip Holiday. Then he beat a succession of old men and journeymen. And then he moved up.

There is NO evidence that he was a great lightweight - because he never fought even a very good lightweight.

You speak as if Floyd has some stunning lightweight resume. he had a very very controversial win over JLC and one clear win in which he fought to not lose more than he did to win. Other than that just 2 other fights against nothing special.

In addition to winning the title against Holiday Mosley defended it against Molina and Leija, both very solid opponents.

That being said, I am not basing my pick on their accomplishments as lightweights, I am basing it on their styles. I'd say they are pretty even on handspeed, stamina, chin, and accuracy. I'd give Floyd a big edge on defense and I'd give Mosley a slight edge in power and a big edge on workrate. I think that Mosley's workrate would enable him to outland Floyd who would be on the defensive and that would win him the fight on the cards.

Yes, but no-one is on here making statements like "Floyd is one of the best lightweights ever" and "Floyd could beat almost anyone at 135" - but they are saying this about Shane, and there is no justification for this whatsoever.

Molina and Leija?! Please. You are only saying that because they are relatively known. Molina was 33, was a natural superfeather, and had been back fighting in public halls between his wide UD defeat to De La Hoya and his shot at Mosley. Leija was 32, had only held 1 world title for a couple of months in his entire career up to that point, had already been stopped by Azumah Nelson when Nelson was 38, and blown away in 2 rounds by a green De La Hoya when Leija was younger and fresher. They were routine defences that would be competitive, they were not risky opponents and certainly not top quality lightweights.

Floyd is/was a better fighter than Mosley all-round, both p4p and h2h. Mosley's only real attribute in that fight is his handspeed, but PBF would neutralize that by sticking and moving, and he is a sharper better boxer. Mayweather UD.

Shane was soo powerful and fast at 135, Floyd is at worst the two best fighter behing Jones of the era...It would be a great fight..I just cant pick a winner. On one hand I think well Floyd has been rocked but he has never been down or really hurt, I dont think that Shane could stop him, on the other hand Im thinking but Floyd never faced anyone that was as fast and powerful AND GOOD. Judah was fast and powerful but a nutcase...Then Im thinking Shane never fought anyone that was faster then him...I dont know:huh

I would have loved to see the fight happen....NOT now Shane would get manhandled.

arent you the same guy that said that Johnston wasnt on Kessler or Casamayors level?

maybe you should start watching some fights instead of just checking boxrec.

I have watched most of his title fights at 135 and, like I said, he looked very good. However, Hamed looked amazing at featherweight... til he met Barrera. Mosley never fought a Barrera, so we have no proof he was great at the weight. And Floyd Mayweather is even better than a Barrera.

As I told you last time you simpleton, I have saw Stevie Johnston fight. I don't think he was as good as peak Joel Casamayor. I think many would agree. You act as if Stevie Johnston was the second coming of Ray Robinson.
