His footwork being the weakness? I dunno about that. He seemed to place his feet in the right places. Mosley's always had other weaknesses though. Too much of a tendency to paw with his jab, defensively liabilities (up the middle). Not exactly the smartest guy or technically sound in the ring. He could be sloppy yet his athleticism allowed him to get away with it. His skills were alright but overrated to me. What really impressed me were physical gifts/athleticism. With the exception of Roy Jones, I don't think any of the top fighters of this era had the type of athleticism that Shane had.
i agree w/ you thread stealer on athleticism... other than roy i dont see anyone more athletic than ssm an in time as we all know (ex roy J) that will erode. But rj doesnt have the greatest chin, an ssm has a better chin he just likes to fight rather than pot shot. Pacfan84 love the insults that kills me! pbf resume is garbage i have so many friends that where pbf fans and hated his fight choices w/ hatton, an then retire no balls..Didnt even want none from cotto when a 37 yr old ssm had to step up and test the young guns. pbf was so boring at 130lbs i couldnt stand to even watch him.
Boring and PBF don't mix especially when he was at 130 he was a boxing god with gloves at that weight.:deal
ssm jumped up an fought all the best fights he could no one is unbeatable trust me! Mosley never unified at 135, never fought Trinidad or Quartey at 147, never fought Vargas til he was past it, never fought Tszyu and hasn't fought Margarito or Williams or Mayweather. He got some big fights yes, but to say he fought all the best is not true. I don't need to trust you, I am well aware that no-one is unbeatable - see my post regarding Mayweather-Margarito on the "Money Mayweather" thread just now for evidence. question who would he have to of unified w/ at 130lbs that wouldve gave him trouble? he called out pbf back then but he was still at 130lbs an too green. One of the biggest mis conception w/ boxing fans is that fighters are garbaged or washed up? why was vargas washed up they both were a little older in the game an vargas is still in his twenties, it took ssm shorter time in both fights to dispatch vargas than dlh an tito.. but fought a hard earned ko at the end w/ mayo when dlh an tito ko him much earlier iam not gonna blame it on age crap? there both old an styles makes fights! pbf was great defensively not sure if he could be ko'ed look at forbes from same elk, but styles make fights. Also i never said he fought all the best fighters that would be impossible but he moved up in weight an fought the best and dared to be great! thats better than staying undefeated an have a whole bunch of people believe his bs that comes out of his mouth...
It's amazing how many people here can't properly analyze matchups and see styles advantges when they're staring them in the face it's easy to see that PBF's counter-punching, defense, footwork and ring generalship would be the difference in this fight he's the more complete boxer. People are so consumed by power and speed that they neglect more important things that make the difference in matchups like these.:-(
Mosley was faster, threw better combos and had the proper aggression and athleticism to make Floyd very uncomfortable. I also don't think Mayweather had the power to really bother Mosley.
He didn't have the power to bother Oscar or Baldo but still beat them. Power isn't the end all be all in boxing it goes much deeper than that especially at the elite level. Things like lack of a good jab, relying too much on his athleticism, not having good defense, not being a thinking fighter and not being able to make adjustments would do a guy like Mosley in against a master boxer like PBF. Also PBF threw more punches at the 130 and 135 than he did at 147 or 154 he would give Mosley hell because of his lack of a good jab and his poor footwork PBF would be able to box circles around him and when Mosley isn't able to ovewhelm PBF with his athleticsm them what? He has no plan B.
I think Mosley's footwork was fine. Mosley had the proper aggressive mindset and offensive abilities to put Floyd off his game. Floyd isn't fighting some slow, plodding journeyman, or a 35 year old with crap stamina, prime Mosley's gonna be there every minute of every round, and his lighting hand-speed, reflexes and timing will spell trouble for Floyd. Not to mention his power. Floyd will be getting caught with clean shots more than he ever was. I also think Mosley would slow PBF down with his excellent body punching.
Mosley biggest weakness is he never had a plan , he put all his egg in one basket , speed , power and strength .. which is why he failed to adjust if he failed behind in a fight. Against a fighter like floyd , this would have been a major mistake.
