    Sit your ass down, nutbag.

Holmes beat Shavers much more convincingly than Ali did. If Ali even won that fight, it was by no more than one round. As for Norton, he clearly beat Ali twice, and some people think he won all three fights.

you must be joking right? ali fought shavers in the end of his career and shavers could not drop him, shavers dropped the ass of holmes in his absolute peak, jesus.... prime vs prime ali was much more dominant than holmes and he was clearly better, i don{t say that holmes would be a day in the park for ali, but ali is better clearly. holmes fought a war with a past prime ken norton and ali schooled sonny liston, liston 64 would destroy norton 78 easily and he would give to larry 78 all that he could handle and more. norton faced a static version of ali, never 60s ali, ali 64-67 was better than holmes 78-82. larry holmes was dropped and hurt by a bum like reinaldo snipes, he was hurt like hell and he lost the fight against spoon and he fought no rematch, he avoided thomas, page or tubbs,he fought a bunch of cans like evangelista, lorenzo zanon,occasio.... he could not stop a guy like trevor berbick and he was competent,no rematch with norton... holmes never fought a rematch with anyone who gave him a tough match and he was not sure to win.

Ali was way old and past his prime by those fights but still won, ali never got knocked down by shavers. Holmes ducked norton altogether in any rematch with his close fights and by the time norton fought larry he was well over 40 and had 3 tough fights with ali.

People need to realise it's simply not worth debating with Tommo he lacks both Intellegence and knowledge.
He just downright hates Ali and his opinions on Ali are staggeringly stupid. I've never known a poster so way off the mark in his opinion of a fighter and his skills.

In their respective primes I gotta go with Ali by decision. 9-6 or 10-5. Probably some close rounds in there.

They had similar tools. Holmes depended on his jab more but Ali`s jab was also one of the best and quickest in history. I think Ali was a shade stronger than Holmes but not sure that would matter much with this style matchup.

The biggest advantages I see are Ali`s hand and especially his foot quickness/work. Ali could move better and create angles to get his shots off and be out of range better than Larry Holmes could.

Not a domination at all. Larry Holmes can hold his own against any heavyweight but I think Ali has a little more God given talent in his favor.

    Ali UD 15.

If you take the 70s version of Ali vs Holmes Id give Larry a slight edge. Ali wasnt quite as fleet of foot nor as rangy. I think Holmes could find Ali more.

Ali fought the better men of his era, won the title, no co-champs fought tough rematches and fought the best...he finds a way to out-will Larry and outsmart Larry...Ali's mind games make Holmes crazy...Ali on points or a TKO

Loved Holmes but in many ways he was a poor man's Ali. Prime Ali was far more athletic, much more agile both of hand and foot, quicker. Norton stated Ali hit harder than Holmes. Alis superior agility and speed gets him the win over 15. 11-4 in rounds.

Liston,Foreman, Frazier and fought Holmes 2 best opponents when they were fresher Norton and Shavers....Holmes got a more-worn Norton and who else did he beat Cooney....Holmes best opponents were the one he did not fight, Ali fought them all

Would have been one of the great heavyweight fights if it had happened at a better time for Ali. The Ali Holmes fought was a shell of his best as we all know.

    Agreed.

So Ali fought in the golden era and he is a crumb bum to a guy who fought in a poor era against sub-par opponents and got knocked out by them :patsch
The unfairness is your delusion that Klitschko and GGG could beat ali because they beat some bums

Well Ali would do what it took to win. I wouldnt call it cowardly. Ali proved his courage time and again. Sometimes his tactics were not crowd pleasing. I didnt like his excessive holding of Frazier in their 2nd fight but he used it effectively. He was intelligent and could think on his feet. Not saying Holmes couldnt. Larry was a great fighter too.
