Hunter is a modern day American heavyweight with similar dimensions to Ali and Hunter also gave Usyk trouble. Logic dictates that the standards of skill and athleticism increase in sports over time, so why is boxing so different. If Hunter gave the most skilled heavyweight of all time trouble, how well could he do against a past great like Muhammad Ali. Would Hunter beat Ali ?

    Is evolution endless?

Michael Jordan is still regarded as the greatest NBA player ever and he made his debut in 1984. 40 years ago. And the NBA had only existed for 37 years at this point.

Gloved boxing had existed for 68 years before Ali debuted. This was ample time to develop most techniques to the highest level possible.

The main thing that has changed since is that southpaws have become a lot more common. But most orthodox technqiues had already developed to the highest level possible.

It is SIZE that is the issue.

The blindness to this issue among some on here is literally staggering to me.

Size, weight and athleticism - and especially SIZE - are the things that dominate most fights.

    Always have, always will.

    Take off the rose-colored glasses.

What is stupid is the idea that yesterday's tiny HWs

would still be competing at HW today

When they were almost all CW size - just like Hunter when he fought Usyk

Not true about evolution. The 100 meter record set by Jessie owens has only been beat by .7 seconds. That record was set almost 90 years ago. Track and field modern training, nutrition along with supplements is far superior to when Jessie ran. Take into consideration that Jessie ran in leather shoes with metal spikes. Jessie did not have the luxury of starting blocks. Jessie ran on a dirt track. I would argue that if Jessie ran with the same advantages as today's runners have, Usain would be a sugar cane cutter for a Jamaican rum company.

I say again, the difference in every contact sport (like boxing) is SIZE. The size of the top boxers has massively changed.

This is the reason that true SHWs (6'5" 250lb giants) have dominated boxing for the last 25 years

Today's top SHWs are mobile and athletic as well.

And because they are so dominant, the Cruiser Division had to be created so the small HWs (Ali's size) would be able to compete

Usyk has just completely unified tbe HW division.

    Skills pay the bills.

SHWs have dominated the division for 25 years. Let that sink in. 25 years

Usyk is the only exception - because his style is utterly unique

Every other dominant fighter (ie. years at the top) has been an SHW

    25 years of proof

    Usyk beat Fury twice.
    Usyk beat Joshua twice.

Here we go again with you.

Anybody who thinks Hunter is any hope at all against Ali is a moron.

Probably a bit unfair to Bolt, who is a freak but your point is valid.

Bob Beamon still holds the Olympic long jump record having held the world record for decades.

The women’s 800m track world record has stood for over 40 years. The men’s 1500m track has stood for 27 years. Men’s high jump record for 32. And so on.

My points have nothing to do with Hunter

Just the simple fact that all those old legends are VERY SMALL compared to today

Almost all would be in CW - and almost all would be in trouble if they fought at HW today.

People claim that Liston would compete. This is simply laughable. The guy is a small 6-footer.

If SIZE means nothing, why did they even invent CW in the first place? Why have weight classes at all?

Since weight classes began we've had fighters climb them and find success.

Since CW began we've had Holyfield, Moorer, Byrd, Usyk all at the top of the division.

AJ has lost to Ruiz Jr who was 6'2. Fury was floored by Cunningham who was a CW and lost to Usyk who was a CW. Ross Purrity beat Wlad and he was 6'3. Byrd beat Vitali. McCall was 6'2 and beat Lewis. Holyfield beat Bowe.

At HW you dont really win because youre bigger, you win because youre better.
