I know that Ali wins, but how convincingly. Mercer was a type of George Chuvalo and Chuvalo did prove to be a challenge. So is this a fight where Mercer is mercilessly clowned and outboxed to a very one sided, shut out decision or would Mercer make Ali work for his money?
Mercer is vastly underrated, but it's his own fault because of his poor work ethic. Ali would beat him.
Total mismatch Ali glides around, stops, pumells Mercer. Repeat Ali by late stoppage as Ray's grotesquely swolen features prompt a mercy stoppage.
To be fair, though he didn't exactly improve immediately after that defeat, he did improve his boxing a little for the Holyfield and Lewis fights. (Although his conditioning was going downward by '96)
When I read this I started thinking of the Roy Jones Jr vs Richard Hall fight This content is protected Ali vs Mercer could look something like that without all of the knockdowns.
Mercer was an overrated hwt. Extremely one dimensional. Ali wins every round in a very one sided contest.
If ever there were a more appropriate title for a fight (i.e. thrilla in manila) that would be it for a Mercer vs prime Muhammad Ali fight
Overrated? Consider the posts here. Total mismatch, ect. He is underrated but it's his own fault because of his poor work ethic. Ali by decision.
