Of course they would affect his performance.

The difference is that Jeffries had his injury going into the fight, and Sharkey gained these injuries during the fight.

That is a slightly different proposition, though your point is well taken.

It should also be noted that Jeffries injury might well have been a problem during the Corbett fight.

Has any biographer of Jeffries suggested that he was in any way hampered with a damaged arm against Corbett?

There are bits and pieces, but the case is less clear cut than with the Sharkey fight.

This injury might have contributed to Jeffries inactivity after the Corbett fight.

If you think Ali beats this guy easily you're living in fantasy land.

I think George Chuvalo was a tough guy, similar to James Jeffries in that regard. I've seen quite a bit of film of George Chuvalo, and I'll use him to help me figure this out. In order to make a guess about what would happen in a prime Muhammad Ali vs. a prime James J. Jeffries, some assumptions have to be made. I'll assume it's a modern rules fight and Jeffries gets a chance to see Ali films and he gets to train some under modern circumstances, so he has some idea about modern rules. Based on what films of Jeffries I've seen, his record, and what boxing people at or near his time said about him, I'll assume a prime Jeffries was at least as durable and tough as George Chuvalo was. This gives him a good chance of going the distance with Muhammad Ali. The question then becomes: Was he as good, less good, or better offensively than George Chuvalo was? Based on what I know about Jeffries and Chuvalo, I'm going to assume Jeffries was at least as good offensively in a short fight (to him) as Chuvalo, and probably better, to some degree. So I'm going with Muhammad Ali by a 12 round decision win, with Jeffries being somewhat competitive at times during the fight.
