This thread has become a joke. Hamed emphatically NOT great. He was good and had a lot of power. This crap about him being past his prime at 27 is stupid. Who cares what made him less than he once was. Even if it's true that he abandoned what got him to the top, the greats don't do what he did, making him not one of them.

Personally, I think he was simply exposed once he finally stepped up to the elite level. And I find any argument about what he "could have" done if he'd kept fighting, very suspicious, based solely on the fact that he didn't keep fighting, but quit.
That tells me something about where Hamed himself felt about where he stood with the elite of his weight class.

All three Mexican greats of his era beat Hamed with ease, and he knew it.

imo a large chunk of what Marco gained from the hamed win as far as his 126 credentials goes, was undone by his cowardly go through the motions performance against Pac.

The minute he realised the fight wasn't going to be a gimme and he was starting to take frequent hard punches, he didn't want to know, even seeming to look for a way out at one point.Really it was every bit as bad a performance as Hamed's gloriously enjoyable schooling at Marco's hands.

Not that i favour Hamed over any of them at any stage in his career, mind you.

lora,I personally believe that Vicente Salvidar was a fantastic fighter,a true great.He is arguable better than MAB,although I haven't seen anywhere near as much of him as I have Barrera.But if you take a prime Saldivar against a prime Hamed,I would have bet the house on Vicente(I don't even wager on fights),although I don't think Hamed would ever have fought him anyway.Btw,My favorite featherweight ever is Sal Chava Sanchez,whom I believe is better than all of the aforementioned,although many in the know make a great case for Vicente.Could you possible fathom prime Chava against prime Hamed?

Soto and kelley were top featherweights when Hamed fought them. They werent relevant and were faded when Morales and Tapia beat them. No Tapia was not better than Medina. He went life and death with a Medina that Hamed had beaten 6 years earlier. The Ayala MAB beat wasnt relevant either.

None of these fighters achieved enough to rank over Hamed at featherweight. Hamed doesnt have anyone as good as the 3 mexicans or Manny Pac on his resume but he has longetivity and an overall better resume(126) based on quantity.

I agree with PP that Hamed is vastly underrated on this site, but you have joined some of the crazed Calzaghe fans on here with your extreme stance on Hamed. I don't know if it is an extreme knee jerk reaction to those who underrate hamed...or if you really believe this stuff????

Hamed was very good, but a notch below the names that have been listed...

FINALLY,you admitted that none of his opposition was better than the 3 Mexs or Pac.After reading your posts,I didn't think you had it in you.However,longevity is meaningless considering INFERIOR quality.Funny how you come up with some obtuse statements without considering all the facts.Unrealistic and false,but funny nevertheless.Quantity is useless when based on inferiority,which is what Hamed's opposition is compared to the big guys.And most of those 4 guys fought each other at various weights between 122-130,except for Hamed,who fought one and got embarrassed.Btw,how many years after Hamed went the distance with Soto was Cesar blasted out by Tapia whom many had considered shot years before that and way past his best weight?Before Kevin Kelly fought Hamed,he had been stopped 2 1/2 years before by someone whose name has totally escaped me.Perhaps you can educate us.After that fight and before he fought Hamed,he drew with 2 fighters whose names have no relevance on the featherweight map-I do believe that one of their records was 16-6.Perhaps you can enlighten us as who they are with your expertise.If you are going to say that Kevin Kelly was a top featherweight when Hamed beat him,then you are seriously,seriously deluded.But then again,you are a Hamed fan.Btw,I just remembered about yet ANOTHER Hamed excuse on the General when one of his excusemakers wrote that Hamed wasn't himself that night as he didn't even flip over the top rope before the fight.People of Classic ESB,someone really wrote that on the General.I **** you not!!!
