Maskaev at his best was quite good, high workrate, good solid offensive style that worked different angles, good ring generalship, huge heart and heavy hands.

His problems were sloth like speed and a really bad chin. Those are things which he was sometimes able to work around against world class oop, but which more often than not proved his downfall. I think all three men mentioned here were too fast and too well schooled to have been caught by one of his looping bombs, and all three men had the power to put him away at some point in the night. Assuming we're taking the best of each man, then he probably has the best chance against Povetkin, who sometimes displays rather large defensive holes and has been hurt in the past by lesser punchers. Chags and Iggy are just too slick and too fast to get caught, and probably either decision him wide or get a late stoppage.

I'd actually give him a chance to last the distance with all three men, though with Oleg it was always a toss up.

Well at one time there was realistic chance that chagaev would fight unification bout with Ibragimov then it fell trough and wlad vs Igy happened i wonder who would have won i would place my bet on Ibragimov!

They were quite evenly matched and stylistically similar, very quick, very well schooled. Iggy has the slight edge in speed, Chags in toughness.

I actually think this is one of the great missed classics of the modern heavyweight era. Their amateur bouts were excellent and highly competitive.

Mendoza, 3 things wrong with that post. 1-Chaggy was a sick patient who wasn't allowed fight outside of Germany. 2-Iggy walked away from the sport and is relavant. 3- He hasn't even fought Povektin and is likely going to avoid him.

Makaev would lose to all of them. He flat out was a notch below.

    Denovelvet,

Very few champions meet their best oppositon when the oppositon was also in their prime, and sweep the field.

I would say Chagaev was slightly past his prime. He was blow out.

I would say Ibragimov was in his best prime. He lost via wide margin on points.

Povetkin is still in his prime, and as far as I know the fight is on between him and Wlad.

I think Oleg would beat Liakhovich, via decision or late round KO.

Maskaev had a lot of ups and downs in his career, the downs being his 1st KO loss to McCall when he only had 10 fights under his belt, to being KO ed by Tua, in a fight he was winning, to KO loss to Kirk Johnson and Lance Whitaker, to his KO loss to T-Rex Sandersone, his ups being his one punch KO of Rahman, hi KO of Alex Stewart and Courage Tsahbalala, his KO of Derrick Jefferson, and his second beat down of Rahman.

Most fighters having suffered a severe KO loss never recovered, but Oleg was the exception, he just kept coming back, which I give him a lot of credit for.

I also think Oleg would beat Chagaev, Chagaev was/is not a big puncher. And I think a Maskaev vs Povetkin would be a 50/50 toss up.

Ibragimov would probably out point Maskaev.

Odd thing about Maskaev, he never lost a decision.

I think you're overrating him. He was a lot more mechanical and worse defensively than Povetkin and Chagaev. If he caught Povetkin on an off night that's one thing, but a focused Povetkin is a pretty good fighter.

Oleg vs Rahman is a classic example of when one fighter simply has the others number.

Rahman was winning both fights. It wasn’t likely that Oleg would do that twice to him, but he did. That’s boxing.
