How does a Usyk that we are seeing at heavy weight fare against kid dynamite from 1985-88?

My prediction if Tyson can't get the job done in the first 3-4 rounds then Usyk wins due to his late round rallies and championship heart

Careful buddy, Mike Tyson lost his prime at 24, because he lost for the first time on Feb 11 1990.

Tyson is a bad style match up. Every bit as quick, explosive and defensively responsible, only with much a deadlier offence and KO power. Tyson usually slowed down to think against fighters that kept him at the end of their jabs while fighting on the backfoot, that's not how Usyk fights. He might employ the jab constantly, but he is an aggressive come forward fighter, and Tyson is too good defensively to just let Usyk do as he pleases with him. Tyson will eventually close the distance, exploit an opening and catch Usyk with something hard, and that will be the end of it.

Tyson won plenty of fights by decision and survived a 12 round war with huge punching Razor Ruddock.

I don't get where this myth comes from Tyson was only a 3 or 4 round fighter.

Tyson wins hes a horrible style match up for Usyk an ATG elite pressure fighter with a sturdy chin and excellent body punching not to mention being perfectly sized at around 220 pounds.

The thing with Tyson was that he had the industry behind him. He was a rare talent but there are a lot of rare talent that people don’t buy into. But they bought into the Jimmy jacobs schtick to push for his young boy to be the youngest champion right when the governing bodies had finally agreed to a unifying tournament.

Mike Tyson and his early resume was a huge benefactor of this.

It meant that Tyson, as good as he was, wound up being made to look that much better whilst he was able to fight more frequently and land the right fights at just the right time. So much easier to look good that way. It was hard for each of Tysons men to look better than they did when they were fighting a live younger unbeaten opponent who was fighting every 12 weeks or so when it had been sometimes years since they had fought live or rated opponents themselves.

At least Usyk has paid his dues the old school way. He won the Olympics and unified titles against men of his own generation as active as he was. He climbed the ranks without this fast track treatment that inadvertently went against Tyson when He came up against an overlooked challenger who had been actively winning as often in competitive fights.

so pitting the prime Mike Tyson with his enhanced resume against largely disadvantaged competition against a more mature and seasoned champion like Usyk might be a more competitive match than many would first suspect.

Hey Choklab, I haven't seen you for a while buddy. Let's hope that no one makes a thread about Usyk vs prime Cleveland Big Cat Williams. Ha Ha Ha.

A bet on Tyson would be wise.

Tyson more then paid his dues to get to where he went.
He got screwed in the Olympic Trials which cost him.
He was amazing at his peak- like a fast moving machine that destroyed everyone in his path.

1988 Mike Tyson is the "right man" for Usyk.
1986-87 Mike Tyson who defeated Tony Tucker and Bonecrusher Smith on points, could lose to Usyk on points.

I agree. He looked amazing. Fast. Clever. Explosive. And so young. Nobody had seen anything quite like it.

He won the fights in the order they were laid on for him, but the guys he fought on the way up were hand picked. Expected. Tillis was no Usyk. I think Ferguson and Green were about the most live guys he fought pre title. Everything else was target practice. Tubbs, Thomas were part time guys by then. Holmes dug up. The wins I rate were Tucker, Biggs, Spinks and Berbick. A good resume over a very short period. But quite an enhanced record.

it didn’t seem to hold him back.

Usyk isn't going to fight to survive and lay all over Tyson. Completely different scenario. Tyson was fine vs those two and i can't see what would have changed in 88.
