The questions is how good is Tyson Fury ? In a absolute snooze fest he took the crown from a old washed up WK who could not let his hands go anymore. He got knocked down left and right vs Wilder who is considered a total Bum with a right hand, without a lienent Ref he would have been stopped in the first fight. Then he gets almost stopped by a stiff MMA 0-0 fighter........ AJ ? A morbid obese non ranked sub made him spit his mouth piece out and quit................Usyk went 24 with AJ.
You have points but the boxer can only fight what is there at the time. Anthony has rebounded nicely and done quite well bit you are right he got stretched by an extremely limited boxer but he did beat him in the rematch. Fury was a big heavyweight that could move gracefully for his size so people got excited because of that. But people have short memories. Buster Mathis senior was damn near 300 pounds and that man could move gracefully especially for his size. In the amateur ranks he beat Joe Frazier who he had a 100lbs on. In the pros Joe knocked him out while still being outweighed because if Joe could get to a boxers body Joe is going to keep pounding that body all fight long. Size can sure matter and can play a factor but not as much against truly great boxers as people think. Dubois knocked Usyk down with a body shot- now you can say it was low or not (I think personally it was borderline) but the fact is Dubois got to his body and while Dubois is a pretty good pro he is not close to a Frazier by any stretch of the imagination.
While Usyk impressed me greatly and quite frankly proved me wrong, I'm still going with Tyson in this. Usyk will be facing someone with much faster hand speed for the first time, and imo won't be able to deal with Tyson's aggression, angles, and combinations. I however have a gut feeling Usyk would upset Lewis though. Something tells me Lewis would have a very difficult time adjusting to Usyk's style. Just a gut feeling.
Ahhh - If only you'd stipulated that it's the version of Foreman who lost to Young who would be no match for Usyk, we might have saved a few posts between us. Usyk might stand a chance against that version.
I still remember when Andy Ruiz destroyed Anthony Joshua in their first fight, everyone was making Ruiz look like a superman in fantasy fights, one mega fight does not make a Dynamo. Usyk is a good fighter but let's wait and see how he does going forward.
Agree 100% , a win over an overrated Fury doesn't launch Usyk into the stratus sphere of all time great heavyweight status.
Yes but Usyk beat Joshua TWICE along with Fury who were the consensus two best in the world at one point.
Tyson has one of the hardest styles for Usyk to overcome. Usyk proved himself against big tall and physically strong HWs who have good skillset. But I doubt how he'd fare against greats like Joe Frazier or Mike Tyson who were relentless and both (in a different way) posessed some tricks that would be hard to solve even for such a great boxer like Usyk.
A 36 year old, out of prime Usyk gets knocked down by a borderline shot to the dick, comes back and dominates Dubois. This is somehow being used as evidence to suggest that Usyk loses every hypothetical match up humanly possible because "he got floored by Dubois, imagine what X would do to him". But a PRIME Mike Tyson gets the **** beaten out of him and LOSES to Buster Douglas, yet somehow gets the benefit of the doubt and doesn't have this negatively factor into his matchups at all? How does that work? A better version of Tyson performed infinitely worse and people are still saying "Tyson KO1" lol. If the likes of Tony Tucker and Buster Douglas can trouble Mike then I think prime Usyk would be just fine.
Big statement. But not realistic. Foreman has one stoppage loss on his ledger, in eighty-one bouts, and that coming at the hands of Muhammad Ali. Usyk's only Heavyweight stoppage wins have come against Chazz Witherspoon and Daniel Dubois, neither are in Foreman's class and Usyk is not Muhammad Ali.
