Tony Tucker was a good win for me. Spinks wanted nothing to do with Tucker.

Not only did Tyson never fight a worthwhile southpaw, but he never fought a southpaw at all.

Could there be a reason for that? Hmmmm.

Ruddock, Tucker, Smith, Green, TIllis, all went the distance with him and none of them were as defensively gifted as Usyk.

    Usyk UD.

Speaking of fast Heavyweights, arguably Tillis did enough to eke out a win here by a point. Usyk has far better footwork and is far faster

Bad style match for usyk. Think Tyson probably kos him. Fleet footed boxers didn't do well against prime mike and I don't think usyk is physically strong enough to withstand the bulldozer

I do not think Tillis won, but it was very close.
That Tyson was near his peak but it was so competitive even when Tillis had lost his last 3 fights, & 4 of the last 5, 42-22-1 overall seems like it must be counted against Iron Mike.
Even though I believe he was a top ATG at his peak.

It's quicker to impose your game plan on a large, gun shy and hesitant opponent like Joshua than to contain a powerful swarmer like Tyson.

The world has been carried away by "mythical 1-year prime '88 Tyson" for some time now.

Mostly by people who watch Tyson decapitating literal crackheads and cab drivers.

This thread was done a while ago prior to Usyk beating Joshua but that still doesn't change my opinion. Tyson wins, Usyk's style based on what I have seen won't be as effective vs Tyson. Nobody is better at getting inside the jab or cutting the ring off than Tyson at heavyweight. Usyk's footwork will ensure he lasts some rounds but I just can't see him keep Tyson on the outside all fight long, he'll get pressured and ground down in the end.

If Usyk shows me he can clinch and be physical and push Tyson back then he has a chance but if he just tries and out boxes him from range he'll get stopped as Tyson's whole style was developed to cut off the ring vs an out boxer, use his head movement to force a lead and then counter with frightening speed and power.

Uysk's tactic of controlling the lead hand to create opening won't work vs Tyson because Tyson doesn't rely on the jab and doesn't have a traditional guard where Usyk can illicit responses from the lead hand to create openings.

Styles make fights and Tyson here has the clear edge for me and I say that as a person who is a bigger fan of Usyk than Tyson.

LOL, he was 19 and coming off the flu........

BTW, the Bodybuilder aint going 12 with Tyson, no ifs or but, it would make the Bruno affairs look competitive.......he choked against the obese midget and choked against a light punching ex cruiser who was uncomfortable with club fighter Chisora

Nobody has ever out boxed Tyson in his prime, you have to out fight him and Usyk aint that guy, Tyson is not afraid to let his hands go like the Bodybuilder........but but but Buster Douglas.......he looked ten times better one that one night then Usyk on Saturday, fact.

Personally I think that's an underrated Tyson win. Sure he was past prime, but he was a past prime ATG who nobody else ever stopped and Tyson ripped through him like Andy Ruiz rips through an all you can eat buffet.

    I
Quick Tillis was coming off three losses in a row and lost 4/5 of his last fights before the Tyson fight. He was smaller than Usyk, way less skilled and accomplished as an amateur and a pro, and was known for having stamina issues, although all of the losses I referenced were decisions. The guy lost to Marvis Frazier! He looked pretty gassed late in that fight and it brought back memories of watching it with my friends when it originally happened.

I’m not saying Usyk dominates Tyson but he would give him more movement (without running) better defense and more skill, accurate punching, in a southpaw position, than a guy like Tillis. Granted Tyson was young in that fight but young Tyson was probably better than later stage, post prison Tyson. He still had that bobbing head movement and cared about defense more than later Tyson. Tyson threw monster shots but was a bit of a bumkiller in his time. I don’t recall ever seeing him fight a southpaw. A guy like Usyk is probably all wrong for Tyson.
