How do you think a prime Paul Williams does against guys like Crawford, Spence, Thurman, Porter, Garcia, Hurd, Munguai, etc? You think he would have been able to beat them all at his best?

I sure do miss the Punisher, true warrior who was willing to fight anyone.

Would get dominated by Spence. Would have issues against Crawford and Porter. Hurd probably too strong. I think he'd be problematic for Thurman, tho.

He'd have been a nightmare for Mayweather. Nowhere near Floyd's level, obviously, but a very bad matchup.

Not completely true. Williams did himself no favors by jumping around from 147 to 154 to 160 and back looking for big fights. It kept him from securing a proper ranking in any one division. And fighting for the WBO at that time meant there was very little chance at unifying belts (Like the one he won from Antonio Margarito).

I think of today's WW crop, Spence gives him the hardest fight.

He'd have a 7-inch reach advantage and would not be disciplined by Floyd's counters like most of his opponents were. That was part of PW's problem, as you saw when he fought bigger guys like Martinez and Lara. He was too willing to get hit by a clean counter. But against Floyd, who did not have much power at 147, and with the reach advantage, there's a chance PW could take rounds by outworking him.

I still think Floyd would win, but this is a uniquely challenging matchup for him despite the levels that separate them as fighters.

Spence & Crawford would bust him up something fierce. He'd be favored against Porter, but an ambusher like that is dangerous for PW. I think he'd beat Thurman.

Bump. I think Williams would match well with any of these fighters. Imagine Paul Williams vs Jarrett Hurd or Spence, that would have been balls to the walls entertainment.
