Depends on how often and how well Pavlik could back GGG up, and if he could keep the fight going that way. Golovkin generally looks more impressive - more aware and responsible defensively, more versatile and varied, better coordinated, seems to be a stronger puncher, etc - but the quality of opposition thing is an important note.
i've actually got Pavlik in a straight forward win here. Pavlik isn't going to back up, he's going to take centre ring. he'll use the long jab to keep GG of balance, then lower the boom with the big right. after a couple of rounds of this, i see Pavlik pushing GG all the way back and making it much easier than it was in the first two rounds. GG wouldn't be able to compete because of the reach of Pavlik. GG needs to have the movement of coming forward to let his punches flow. he can't find his shots to fire back other than a half arsed jab when kept in one place. we all saw how badly he struggles when you don't go on the back foot. it's a major weakness that WILL be taken advantage of very soon. plus, he's easy to hit. Pavlik hits him with too many big shots at range and ends things in the second half.
I was actually wondering who would've won between Pavlik and GGG. Golovkin is more skilled but Pavlik had a hard jab and a monster right hand. It would've been a brutal fight. I give Pavlik the edge but I don't know. GGG is a beast.
He is a beast against subpar fighters.............Pavlik at his best cannot be outfought, he has to be outboxed and GGG ain't outboxing Pavlik, no way no how. This is like a dream fight for Pavlik....a fighter who comes forward plus the Ghost's power is vastly underrated...........I will never forget Mirandas expression when Pavlik landed the first flush right and Miranda was never known to be weak chinned............I am certain that GGG has never tasted that kind of zip in a fight.
GGG would have been the perfect opponent for Pavlik, a shorter power puncher that can't fight well going backwards and Pavlik had no problems with such fighters. GGG wouldn't be able to back up or bully Pavlik, and is gonna eat a lot of jabs and body shots and eventually might even get stopped because he's not hard to hit cleanly to the head. Pavlik's losses came against awkward fighters that could move well side to side and backwards, and also use lots of angles and make him miss. GGG is very talanted but there's nothing on his resume yet to see how he deals with the top the fighters. His best known opponents were Ouma and Macklin so he's unproven.
Love 3G and have been a Pavlik fan for years and years. It's crazy how overrated 3G is at present and how underrated prime Pavlik is at present. It's a war for sure but Kelly beats up 3G in the end. A few comments based on previous posts: * pavliks run to the title included kos over Zuniga, Zertuche, Mckart, and Miranda then left the champ in a pile of himself. None had previously been stopped. 3G has what on this? * no one has ever stood toe to toe with Pavlik. He knocked out everyone he's ever fought at MW except Martinez and he fought Sergio 2 weeks after getting out of rehab and having to cut over 20lbs (documented and goes to him being cut up so bad). Does a prime Pavlik beat that Sergio? That's not the point...point is that wasn't prime Pavlik and anyone who says otherwise is a blind Pavlik hater and there are plenty on here. * everyone 3G has fought has found him. He doesn't really move all that much and will be looking up at Kelly's right coming down on him. Miranda made his name knocking cans through the ropes highlight reel style and Kelly ate everything he was hit with. Based on this some of you think the two area going to go toe to toe and 3G is going walk him down and stop him? What no one has really mentioned is 3Gs body work which I see as his only chance. Kid can crack to the body and Kelly isn't the best inside fighter. I just don't see 3G getting off to the body as he's being put on the back foot and dealing with a high volume of shots coming down on him from a much taller, stronger fighter than he's ever fought. And as a funny blast from the past, and for those newer to this forum...go back and look at how overblown another short MW banger was during his run of ko'ing bums. 3G is levels above this guy but the point is this guy was hailed by some as being the total package. Don't take my word for it just look up the posts.
I should vote for Pavlik via decision or late rounds tko. Golovkin is a beast, but styles make fights. Pavlik just lost once at MW against a awkward guy with the better footwork at the division in years. Both have bricks on their hands but if Pavlik were able to put GGG on his heels and put him under constant pressure... I think Pavlik would demolish him.
+1 GGG is not comfortable on his heels. Pavlik would put him on there and walk him over throwing and throwing. I think it would be a long night for GGG.
Golovkin simply hasn't the resume to make him the clear favourite over Pavlik. Both guys hit hard, with the edge to Golovkin but Pavlik is naturally bigger and has beaten better opposition. Both guys always crushed opponents that stood in front of them so nobody knows for sure who would come off better if they traded with each other as neither has been beaten by an opponent that adopted these tactics. I'd favour Pavlik simply because he is more proven as he has had success at a higher level and we simply don't know how good Golovkin is at the moment.
