What fighters at Middle weight would you pick over prime Kelly Pavlik? I rank Pavlik high and think he is a tough match up for many all time at middleweight. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3sdsyVtRByc
Pavlik is very underrated @ 160. I think he beats D!ck Ihetu, Jake LaMotta (not a great in my list, but I know most consider him as such) and principally does well against meat loafs. I think he gives Monzon a very tough fight, win or lose. Could have been a better test for Monzon than an injured, past his prime Valdez. Pity that in his prime he did not fight GGG. That would have been both men's hardest test, which I think GGG would have prevailed at. He would have been WSJ's hardest fight @ 160 too, and would have done better than he did @ 170 against a younger, but more weight depleted Hopkins @ 160. Pavlik makes top 20 in my 160lbs h2h list some times.
Monzon and Hagler would have easily beaten Pavlik...Tiger and Griffith would have beaten him as well...and Valdez. Bennie Briscoe would have gone right through him.
LMFAOOO at Pavlik giving Monzon a tough fight. Monzon would have wiped his ass with Pavlik. MANY, MANY middles in history would beat Pavlik. MANY.
D!ck Tiger would've beaten 15 shades of **** outta Pavlik. I can't think of a guy more tailor made for Tiger than Pav.
:rofl:rofl:rofl Both Tito and JJ would have stopped Pavlik. ESPECIALLY Jackson. As easy to hit as Pav was? Jackson would have destroyed him.
Is that so? I do know that Pavlik was a very good offensive fighter, who was also extremely limited and hittable. Too hittable to beat a puncher as accurate, and devastating as Jackson, or Trinidad.
Pavlik never lost to a puncher and those guys are physically much weaker than he is. He'd have a great shot at breaking either down.
:good Yes!! Let's have some sanity here!!Lol....I got to thinking about this thread question while I was doing my laundry, and it's a real puzzle to me as just who Pavlik would have a chance against. 1.First of all, it goes without saying that Monzon, Hagler, Valdez and SRR would have ko'ed Kelly rather easily...as would have Freddie Steele.....and probably Bennie Briscoe. 2. **** Tiger would have dominated Kelly with his huge strength advantage and smart boxing. 2.Emile Griffith would have outpointed him, being the great ring mechanic that he was. 3. Gene Fullmer and Jake LaMotta would have been too damnded strong for Pavlik...Fullmer would have mauled him. 4. The persistently underrated Hugo Corro would have outpointed Kelly in a dreadfully dull match(that is if he felt like fighting) 5. I'm thinking Alan Minter would have been too strong and savvy for Pavlik. 6. Vito Antuofermo??? I can see Pavlik cutting Vito, and if he fought a smart fight, exploiting his reach and height advantages maybe forcing a tko, but then you have to remember Vito's awesome heart, and how he extended Hagler to a debateable draw over 15. 7. Marcel Cerdan? No way Kelly beats him. 8. An in-shape Nino Benvenuti beats Pavlik as well. 9. Tony Zale would be too teak tough and would have given that long torso of Pavlik's a brutal body beating. 10. Rocky Graziano?? Here's an intriguing matchup.. would Kelly land first or would Rocky? 11. Bobo Olson? Haven't been "****d" to dwell on that one. See, Pavlik won the title from a comparative mediocrity in Jermain Taylor (who nevertheless, twice beat so called "great middleweight" Bernard Hopkins, which is why I don't have Hopkins in the stratospheres with other great middles)...then Kelly lost the crown to one of the weakest champions in middleweight history, in Sergio Martinez. So I don't see Pavlik in the company of too many great middleweights, nevermind beating them.
