Bowe ducked Razor Ruddock and instead fought Coetzer in an eliminator, with the winner getting a shot at Holyfield. How Coetzer got such a high rating is beyond me.

Well, I saw just about every fight he ever had.

He would be no better than a top 8 contender, even today. His biggest assets were his fitness and chin and willingness to go to the body, but he lacked the power to trouble the elite heavies, and he lacked imagination. He was a far too mechanical. And he was a bleeder. He never fared well against guys with a good jab.

The Klits would have an easy time with him.

Agreed. If he were fighting today, he'd be a punching bag for top contenders, like he was when he was around in the early 90s. He might be able to hang around the rankings a little longer as a fringe contender, but that's about it.

The Heavyweight division today is abysmal. I cannot see Povetkin beating Bruno myself.

It's been fairly mediocre for a few years but there seem to be some irons in the fire now. It has always gone through peaks and troughs. Jesus, do you really think Don Cockell would get a title shot anytime in the past 30 years? Look at some of Louis' defenses. Look at the **** Ali was fighting in the late 70's, or Holmes in the early 80's.

What about Knoetze and Coetzee? How would they get on?

What a difference a year makes.

Wlad might actually have some good prospects and contenders to dominate. Sadly, without a genius in his corner but hey, he's a smart guy and no doubt he's absorbed a lot and can find a good fit and carry on just as he has been.

Seems he's actually about to have a Holmes-esque patch of undefeated but fairly unproven challengers. I'm not sure I see any of them getting to Wlad as some of Larry's did and pushing him as close as some of them did on the cards (Williams, Spoon) but, as ludicrous as it seems, Fury (if he beats Boystov impressively) and Price (if he blasts anyone better than fringe Euro level, Sexton, flabby domestic, Fat John, or never was and shot, Audley) will be solid scalps for the fact they're bigger than Wlad, and have a few decent attributes.

Give it a year, if Wlad's heart is still in it, I'd love to see it. Pulev as well but I don't think he has any hope of making it interesting.

    Yeah, pretty interesting times.

Seriously, he might crack the top 10 for a few months. That's it. He was tall, skinny, couldn't crack an egg and had a chin of granite.

And I have seen quite a lot of his fights.

Read the title. This is not just Pierre Coetzer we're talking about, it's Prime Pierre Coetzer. Respectable men have wet their pants as this Mustachioed Warrior climbed through the ropes.

God, I wanted to fight this guy.

What a ******* it would have been. A gentleman, a good fighter, and a guy willing to come get it.

That is a great picture of a very tough man indeed.

    Coetzer KO1 Sullivan for moustache?
