I honestly don't think Williams was any better than Mike Weaver, in fact, I think they were pretty equivalent. And we see what happened there.

Admittedly don't know enough about Pinky to make a sure call one way or the other.

im not 100% on this but i think Williams never KO'd a top 5, or maybe its a top 10, fighter. Going on that and the fact Pinky held a belt and wasnt bad, i gotta got for Pinky

Williams knocked out Miteff, and Rischer who were both among the top ten off the top of my head.

you may well be right but are you sure they were top 10 when they fought williams? Ive just looked at Ring magazines rankings and neither were top 10 ranked when they fought williams, but then again, thats Ring magazine and not the official rankings. Could you show me their rankings at the time they fought?

I love Williams, but he was not unbeatable, and Thomas was a great boxer. Thomas could use the jab to win a decision that could be close or fairly wide. Good fight in any case.

    Certainly

"Cleveland (Big Cat) Williams, who shattered the title hopes of 7th ranked Alex Miteff with a 5th round TKO, set up a howl today for a shot at champion Floyd Patterson. If Williams ever looked as though he deserved a shot at the title, it was Tuesday night. He took command of the fight from Miteff from the start, opened a bad cut over his left eye in the 2nd, floored him for eight counts in the 3rd and 4th, and was beating him badly when referee Ernie Taylor mercifully ended it 1:32 deep into the 5th." -United Press International
    • After this bout, Texas Boxing Enterprises, the promoter of the bout, sent Floyd Patterson an offer of $100,000 or an option of 40% of the gate to meet Cleveland Williams.

Miteff was also ranked 7 by the ring at the time

Rischer was also ranked number 9

Williams also had other wins over rated oppenents (Daniels for example) but I don't believe any of them were KOs. I could be wrong though.

Good man, thanks for the info. Must be a top 5 ranked fighter then.
