I think this is a little off base. He stated that he went on a heroin binge immediately after the Tyson fight. I don’t think his focus was ever the same after that.

I don’t think he was using heroin frequently or possibly at all prior to that during his pro career. He took up boxing in order to quit drugs.

A guy actively using heroin wouldn’t be eating big punches in full length fights like Thomas in his prime. Or it wouldn’t have lasted long. Coetzee to Tyson is basically a normal length prime.
