For all this talk of the Huck fight, I honestly think Huck could outbox Mercer.

Povetkin ud.. povetkin could be a top 5 in any era. He is so underrated here.
so active and strong for a slowly and not consistent mercer..

Good post but I disagree that Povetkin has better wins.

His best wins are Chambers, Takam, Chagaev, and shot Byrd, who was destroyed in his very next fight by LHW jorneyman. Huck beat Povetkin when Sasha was in poor shape, but Sauerland wanted Huck to stay in cruiser and gave Sasha a 'win'. If we count 'win' over Huck, we have to count Mercer 'win' over Lewis.

Mercer has his list of good wins, too - Morrison, Damiani, Bert Cooper, Tim Witherspoon.

It's hard to pick for me who has better list of wins between the two.

And, TBH, Mercer looked much better against his his ATG opposition than Povetkin.

While I agree, his draw vs Wilson (should've been loss) and loss to Ferguson are embarassing.

Povetkin is very good boxer, but he has obvious flaws.

His best attribute is his mentality, if he had the heart of Dimitrenko, he would've quit against Huck and Klitschko, he would've lost to Chambers.

He has good offensive skills, handspeed and high workrate.

He, however, has very short arms and therefore he hasn't good jab of straight punches. His main weapon is hooks and uppercuts. His reach isn't 75'' - thats bull**** . I remember someone mentioned his reach as 72" in his early days as a pro, which seems like true.

I think Mercer had more flaws. All credit to him for winning gold because guys like Holmes and Damiani showed that he was missing something in terms of technique. (I think Damiani was Mercer's best win.)

I think this is the fair truth.

Lewis performance against Mercer was the best of his career imo. He looked like an animal , yet Mercer fought him to the wire in a very close fight.

If it was a 12 I rounder think Mercer would have taken it.

He took serious combos from Lewis like it was nothing so I can't see him being out fought by Povetkin and their skill level was pretty even.

Before Tackam wilted he was making Povetkin look poor and beating Charr is nothing to go on.

Mercer has been tried and tested on a higher level.
