Ruddock taking too many hooks but not getting knocked out. The ref stops it unfairly out of disbelief that Ruddock is still okay.
Frazier takes control later in the fight after some difficulty. He may have to get up early on but outworks and outlasts Ruddock. Frazier probably late stoppage under a barrage.
Joe would catch some shots in this one but after about 6 or 7 rounds of Razor dealing with Frazier coming forward nonstop and catching that big hook over and over, which Joe would have no problem landing, Razor losses by KO.
Scheduled for 15 Joe stops him in 13-14, over 12 he takes a nice solid 8-4 decision, with some tough patches along the way.....very closely contested for 10, with Frazier holding a slim 6-4 lead.
I could see Ruddock having some sucess laying on Joe, using his weight to smother him on the inside but not before Frazier pumps 2 or 3 shots inclose. Ruddock just telegraphed that big left too much and when he missed with it {quite often} he was so wide open to a counter hook. Off balance as well which led to him being Knocked down at times. Some people think Joe Frazier was a one handed fighter {not true} Razor Ruddock actually was a one handed fighter. Hard to overcome at the elite level against Frazier. I agree Frazier stops him late with many Knockdowns along the way. The referee may get tired of counting.
Wow! Fascinating! Please tell us more Mr. Boxing. I know there are some on here who are inexplicably yawning due to your advanced cognitive reasoning abilities that are difficult for the masses (who normally just regurgitate the mantra of the day!) to digest....But, I for one am appreciative that you would deign to stoop down to our level and regale us with your enlightened insights...please elaborate and break this down, in the eloquent prose that you delight us with!
its all about size with elroy...punching power based on size...bigger man wins every time....no emphasis on techniques or delivery of punches. I'd love to hear his thoughts on tommy hearns vs virgil hill.
I'm beginning to wonder if a prime Joe Frazier could knock ME down, Philly! Is Elroy trying to brainwash us like some weird cult leader? A drip, drip effect could be his method, you know. Elroy and The Church of The Latter Day Heavyweights!
If Ruddock can find Joe's chin reasonably regularly, this can get messy for Joe. The smash was essentially a hookercut, a hybrid uppercut left hook, and Ruddock was pretty good at disguising it as a jab before dipping his shoulder to throw the punch. Ruddock is one of those few fighters who led with his power hand, and there are some merits to that style. I see more fighters are doing this now...leading with the power hand. The worst thing Joe could do is allow him space to throw that punch, because Donovan like to jump in with it. It comes in at an angle that would catch Joe. I think Ruddock could have had more success with it if he threw a straight right more often and set the punch up better, but often he would just wing with it without creating any openings, and waste a lot of energy and leave himself open. I think Joe's superior fundamentals and better workrate would see him in good stead as things progress. Ruddock was not the type to use his size to maul in close, and this suits the smaller Frazier. Ruddock was one tough man though, with plenty of heart and fighting spirit. He stood in front of Tyson for 12 rounds and got beat up badly, but he landed some vicious shots of his own too, and despite Tyson's body attack, he never did wilt. If that version of Ruddock shows up, this is going to be a war. I must be honest, I do wonder if Joe can take those big lefts...if he catches Joe with the sorts of shots he landed on Tyson and Dokes, then Frazier would be in big trouble. Ruddock would be most dangerous for the first 5-6 rounds. He could knock Joe out if he lands right, no question. So for me, the short and brief answer is Ruddock by knockout early, but if Joe is still there after 5-6 rounds, that would mean he has tasted Ruddock's best and the fight would start to swing in his favour. I think he'd have to settle for a decision over 12 though...as I said Ruddock could survive a war of attrition and has, against a guy who is (in my opinion) more formidable than Joe in several key aspects.
I feel the need to say this a lot but usually don't bother: It's JOE FRAZIER. Don't people realise what that means? It's Joe fokin' Frazier! :fire
Frazier had alot of success bombing the left hook over Ali's left uppercut, including the famous knock down. I see Ruddock eating left hooks over the top and getting his body gutted when he's inactive and trying to wrestle on the inside. Frazier forces a stoppage in the mid rounds with Ruddock getting dropped multiple times.
Frazier by KO, with very little doubt, lol.. Who was the best fighter that Ruddock beat? :nuthe was s predictable 1 armed fighter who couldn't box, and had a so so chin. Tommy Morrison knocked the living **** outta him
