Well, to me at least, he seemed to be better and more powerful than say Galento, Buddy Baer or Primo Carnera.

Let's take each category in turn:

I will take better to mean results!

On paper he was arguably better than Galento, better than Buddy Baer, and unequivocally inferior to Carnera!

It would be hard to judge whether he hit harder than Galento or Baer, because they all had the same strengths/weaknesses.

He almost certainly hit harder than Carnera, but he had a fraction of his skill.

I'll just put it this way, more often than not I'd pick Ruddock to beat the above 3 and likely to do better H2H against nearly any fighter than those would do, at least most times.

Ruddock actually has a very good chance here. Ruddock hit probably twice as hard schemling or Braddock and they put joe our o his @ss, both of these guys biggest weakness is their chins, both hit hard, I imagine ruddock having more power of the two but Louis definitely had the power to flatten ruddock as well, louis is by a good margin the more skilled of the two probably also a tad faster. Idk how this fight would go, I want to say how wins it because he' simply a better fighter but if ruddock lands that shovel hook on joe its over

But what specifically does Ruddock do that's exceptional?

Well, it seemed that he hit harder, was faster, showed better movement and technical ability when he wanted to.

Who hit harder isn't very important here. Both had power to knockout anyone if they landed right.

Faster? No, I think that one goes very solidly to Louis. Better Movement? Sure his movement was good but it cost him his balance. Technical ability? Never saw a very good jab from Ruddock. Technically Louis is probably the most technical heavyweight to lace up the gloves. Always balanced, always in position to deliver a powerful punch, perfect technique. There were a lot of times where Ruddock was off balance and all over the place. Never really saw much technical ability from him imo.

The other big factor is corners. Ruddock went through a ton of trainers. A ton. The other guy has Jack Blackburn. How hard would it be for Blackburn to find the flaws with Razor Ruddock?

There's a reason the great corners have their guys getting their hand raised. And the opposite holds true as well==the poor corners are the one's helping their guy up.

Louis would be the stronger and harder hitting of the two.
He would be better at creating finishing opportunities.
He would defeat Ruddock via KO within 10 rounds.

Louis is just too fast. His boxing pedigree is just too good.
His mechanics, speed, and power are all a class above.
He'll withstand a few smashes that partially land and Ruddock won't have the skill to protect himself when Louis returns. Ruddock won't have a jab to keep Louis from him. He won't win a punch out.

Louis by KO. He would make Ruddock pay dearly for such sloppiness.

Baer, Galento, and Carnera got annihilated by Louis. Galento saw some success but only because he had a cast iron chinand was always coming forward. Ruddock wouldn't and he wouldn't catch Louis with as great of a left hook.

This. Ruddock is being seriously overrated. Besides an old and out of shape Bonecrusher Smith he beat nobody. Marvis Frazier in his prime would most likely have outpointed him and Marvis Frazier is no Joe Louis. Ruddock is too one dimensional and lacks the stamina or defense to be a threat to Louis. Also, even he scored a knockdown Louis would quickly recover and pick him apart.

Joe Louis would give Ruddock a brutal beating before knocking him out. Buddy Baer had just as much power Ruddock, better defense, and a longer reach and still got completely dismantled by Louis.

    Ruddock quitting against David Jaco.

Tyson easily exposing Ruddock's poor defense. Mike went to work on Ruddocks body until Ruddock started dropping his hands and then started landing flush hooks on Ruddock. Tyson let Ruddock off easy while Louis would've carried Ruddock a few more rounds before ending him.

Ruddock getting easily worked by Morrison, who was a pretty good fighter, but at best would've barely made the bum of the month tour when Louis was champ.

This. Galento was also far more experienced than Ruddock was with over 100 fights and had much better defense than Ruddock.
