Prime Ricky Hatton V Maidana

Hatton only ever lost to Pac and May, the two greatest fighters of the era. Hatton would wear Maidana down in close: Hatton KO 9 via bodyshot.

 

Would have been an interesting one. It's a shame Hatton's turned into such a bum because in reality he should still be one of the top boxers at 140 lbs if he was in shape and didn't go off the rails so much. I think Maidana could well beat him. Hatton's not fast or smart enough to cleanly outbox him so I don't think the Khan fight has any bearing on how it would play out. Would probably be dirtier than Hatton-Tszyu as well.

Hatton is a terrible matchup for Maidana. He'd sbreak him down, maul him and stop him, and can mix it up too, confidetly boxing because he was a durable tank at his peak.

Based on last nights performance, a peak Ricky would've eaten Amir up too. His pressure+Fast feet and cutting off of the ring spells disaster for Khan. Amir isn't stopping Ricky either, he'd have his hands full more than he could want.

Maidana wouldn't of got out of first 4 rounds. Relentless body attack would of muller'd him. Kept saying before the fight Maidana doesn't have world class one punch knockout ability. He has will breaking power that sucks life out of you. Hatton on his pomp would walk through a great deal to break his man down and Maidana would of handled the relentless pace and precise body punching.

 

Something like this I reckon. Peak Ricky against Bradley would've been more interesting.

 

Agreed. Whilst Bradley uses very economical movement, he doesn't have a big dig to constantly dissuade Ricky. Whilst slicker than Ricky, the Mancunian always displayed fast feet and the ability to set up ripping bodysuits and nullify his opponents offence with holding, mauling tactics.

However, with Bradleys strength, durability and own mid-range ability, I think we'd see some very good technical battles, which I think Bradleys added well-roubdednes would see him win, but a meeting of heads (literally) on the I side which would be exciting and brutal, which I think Ricky would win due to him being so gutsy in the trenches as well as being more proven there (thus far anyway)

Hatton before 6, maidana up to 10 then a close hatton decision failing the previous two. Think hatton would have found a way to the body very quickly. Dependent on his ability to properly hurt and finish maidana then, I couldn't see it going beyond six. But after this, I see maidana being relentless, and inevitably catching up with hatton and testing his chin. Hatton comes through the test it's a points win.
Khan has the ability to box the **** out of maidana all night, but the fact it he managed to make khan look occasionally like he was in survival mode, which suggests at least some world class punching power.
My point is that hatton doesn't posses the skills to keep maidana away for a great length of time, and we know ge can be got to, so if he comes through that storm he wins on points. But could he look as classy as khan did? He would need to get close and on the inside to be effective. Would this play to maidana? It's a lot closer than many people think IMO.
Then again, hatton would have finished the fight in the first round last night, had he gave had the opportunity khan had

a more primed amir khan who knows how to stick and move beat prime ricky though...but amir is yet to reach that level

 

Hatton could outboxed Maidana as well. He demonstrated this against both Tackie and Paulie, the former who also wouldve given Khan big hassle IMO.

Yep. A portion of Hatton's success on the inside for most of his career seemed to come from his opponents own inside fighting abilities or lack thereof, so to speak. Whether or not Bradley can match him for strength is up in the air, but it gets interesting if Bradley's cuter, more solid inside/midrange work and positioning can technically offset Hatton's energy, grind, gristle and quick feet. He (Bradley) wouldn't be clueless for what to do even if actually doing it is a slightly different proposition. And what does Ricky do if it proves to be the case?

I think I'm liking Hatton to bumrush and suffocate Bradley in the first few with Bradley adapting mid-fight before Hatton's sheer doggedness gives him a tiny bit of a second wind right at the end to earn him the nod in an ugly one. The best inside fighters would give Hatton a bit of a slapping there imo, but Bradley doesn't deserve the benefit of the doubt to that extent yet despite his general good schooling.

 

I think Tackie and Phillips are two of Hatton's best wins.

Better than the wins over Urango and Maussa for starters, perhaps Paulie too.

Tackie had a concrete beard, could crack a bit and didn't mind using his nut. Not exactly what Khan would want in an opponent.

The version Ricky faced was a far cry from the washed up journeyman that faced Mad Matt.
