Disagree ... Evander fought most of the smaller guys when he was not yet in his own prime .. either way Evander would be fighting 6' plus 210 plus guys while Rocky would be fighting much smaller .. not an even gage there either .

 

You are actually trying to compare Carmine Vingo with Riddick Bowe ? Who considered Vingo a potential great ? Based on what ?

 

Carmine Vingo was a very highly rated Prospect. There are sources out there which claimed he had the goods to eventually become a world class fighter. If you don't take my word for it, then I will post the sources. We never got to find out how good Vingo would have been because of Marciano, but he is one of the more famous "What Ifs" in heavyweight history. Vingo had a lot of upside. He was young(20), Big (6'4 195lb with potential to add on more lbs), could hit hard, had promising talent, and he could take a punch. Vingo doesn't compare to Bowe. He is just another James Shuler and Henry Snow Flakes.

It's funny...you accuse Marciano of beating on Old Fighters. Yet when we mention the young studs he fought(Layne(23), Lastarza(22, 26), Matthews(29) and Vingo(20) who had a combined record of

All of these guys were exposed by a very good fighte in Marciano. Glossy records don't mean ****. Now Rocky, in my mind was definately a bigger one-punch fighter, but Evander might have beaten these guys at Cruiserweight worse than Marciano did at Heavyeight. Holy was quick and very aggressive at CW and would have been all over these guys like fly's on ****.

Mathews was a well promoted flop. Period. You list his record like it means something. List who he defeated of merit.
Vingo a tragic but unproven fighter. I'm open to reading who considered him a future great and what it was based on.
LaStarza a pretty good small cruiserweight. I must have missed the big names he defeated as well.
Layne a decent but limited heavyweight. In addition, his style was made for Marciano.

None were great or near great. None were proven championship material. None were dominant big heavyweights. I'm not saying that a LaStarza or a Layne didn't have some ok moments in their careers but they are not the monster credits you make them out to be.

I can't answer the question...sigh..I made it up. Carmine Vingo was actually a flat chested woman on stilts who never fought professionaly before. Thats why the film footage is so poor, Weils didn't want us to know Rocky brutalized a woman in the ring. Vingo was invented by the mafia controlled media so Marciano could have a 6'4" slugger on his resume...because they knew in the future we could present him/her as evidence Marciano would knockout Riddick Bowe in fantasty fights.
