You think THAT highly of Jones?

If he was bested by Tarver on 2 out of 3, surely there are a great number of light heavies who could have beaten him.

At 160 and 168 I do, although others present challenges and could potentially beat him. At 175, there are more fighters that I didn't list that would have a decent chance.

I'm definitely not saying he dominates all of them. He was next to impossible to beat in his prime though.

That wasn't Prime Roy that Tarver beat.

Nope, but let's be frank here--he wasn't that far removed from his prime, was he?

I think there are a slew of fighters in that range who could have beaten Roy.

Roy's legacy is based more on the perception of greatness than actual greatness.

The RJ that beat Griffin would've murdered Tarver!

    I'm not convinced.

The RJJ who had just beaten Ruiz struggled with Tarver, and then was bested by him.

But the worst thing about Roy in the aftermath of that was his outright reluctance to take a chance inside the ring!

In the third fight, remember the fifth round where Roy had Tarver wobbly? The shame of this is, Roy COULD HAVE beaten Tarver that night, but instead of following-up with more of the same, he was perfectly content making an ass of himself the rest of the way.

Is that the heart of a champion?

Like I said, his perception of greatness exceeds his actual greatness.

Dude go lose 25 lbs of muscle in 3 months then tell me if you feel like fighting. Most people wouldnt have been able to make the ring walk. He did have Tarver in trouble in Rd 5. I can't explain why he backed off other than lack of confidence or he just gassed out.

Huh? Did you see what he did to Toney when he lowered his hands and Toney tried to mimic??? I gave Toney a round in that fight. He beat Toney worse than he beat alot of lesser fighters than Toney. He also landed some sick combinations on Hopkins, in my mind he got his offense off just fine against them.:yep

I'll leave out guys I've not seen footage of, including Greb.

160- Hagler and Monzon stand decent chances against a younger Jones. Probably not enough to favor though.

    168- Nobody

175- Charles and Spinks stand good chances, but are also capable of losing. Foster and Patterson take Jones out.

I think Tunney would UD him as well, but they'd all be intriguing matchups.

He's the guy I'd feel most comfortable taking over Jones at 175. His length, speed, power, and timing would spell trouble for Jones. Sooner or later, he connects.
