Kessler is a fundamentally superb fighter who has beaten some good opposition in Siaca, Mundine, Andrade and Beyer. He has the potential to dominate super middleweight when he gets his managerial sitaution sorted out.

On the subject of Lacy, Calzaghe has simply ruined him as a fighter, so any 'lessons' he has received since the Calzaghe fight in no way reflect on the significance of Calzaghe's victory over him.

Against Hopkins, he landed more punches, forced the fight and took less punches. It's as simple of that. It's hard to pinpoint Hopkins' prime, as he has evolved as a fighter to accomodate his age i.e. he has become far more cagey as he has gotten older.

You're right Calzaghe did peak at an older age than most. I'd say the best performance of his career was against Kessler, at the age of 35.

 

Benn vs Jones is one of my 10 top favourite fights that never happened. Benn was being polite...NOTHING put fear into that man.

 

I def agree Calzaghe is nowhere near RJ level! or legacy!! Prime vs Prime,RJ would have easily KO him in 3 rounds!!

 

Prime jones is beatable.

Just cause he wasn't beaten, doesn't mean he couldn't be. He had flaws, same as other fighters, that could have been exploited.

lmao if calzaghe couldn't tko a 40 year old jones, what makes you think he could when Jones was in his prime. I know Joe wasn't exactly in his prime either but he was still very good.

Jones likely wins a close pts decision but gets really tested IMHO.

 

It's the demographics of ESB. Prime Roy could have played basketball two hours before the fight and worn a blind fold and KOd Joe without any trouble. Calzaghe never could avoid the right hand (RJJ, BHOP, Eubank, Mitchell, Salem, & Reid). He never had any discernible power (all his TKOs were against bums, fat guys, old fat bums, and sometimes by the intervention of predisposed refs). That said, Joe is a very good fighter but should NEVER be included in any list that includes Roy Jones Junior or other greats.
