Nonsense. The Untouchable Roy Myth was a media creation, Antonio Tarver was the first non-handpicked, legit elite fighter he faced in years, and maybe Roy started to fade, but 'all off the sudden' he had a super tough 12 rounder, all this before getting KO'd and became ‘gun-shy’. I don't buy the 'moving down from HW' thing, it most likely had an effect, but what you have to see is that Tarver put on an excellent fight, and had a great game plan, having the most success with combos at the ropes, never letting Roy fight his fight and create distance for punches.

This is a very important fight and needs to be judged properly. IMO it was the very fight that showed not only to us, but to Roy that he’s not untouchable given the wrong style of opponent, who can’t be abused by handspeed and flashy stuff, and who can make you fight his fight. Roy barely got away with the decision, and only then, a few month later he got knocked out and became 'shot'. The 1st Tarver fight, a debated Roy win, is a legit performance vs. a top Roy.

Fast forward to Old Roy vs. Joe Calzaghe. Enzo said they were preparing for the Tarver tactic, and Calzaghe being all over Roy at the ropes and putting his head very close to Roy’s gloves and stuff like that wasn’t showboating, but the same tactic: not letting Roy create distance for his shots. Roy couldn’t pull off with very short punches and his offense was nullified. Calzaghe, like Tarver, applied very smart pressure, and it’s the 1st round that proves Roy still had at least SOME speed before it was taken away from him, like Joe took away Kesslers handspeed and straight punches, Hopkins’ stamina and right, Lacy’s power etc. He’s a very smart and very adaptive fighter.

Calzaghe easily getting KO’d by prime Roy is an absolute misconception. Tarver, a guy religiously preparing to defeat Roy, used something nobody could pull off before, having huge success at the ropes and keeping the fight there, exactly what Joe did and could’ve done vs. any version of Roy, because Jones is NOT adapting good, he fights always the same way, never could do the necessary adjustments in 5 fights vs. Tarver, Johnson and Calzaghe. Taking away his usual distance and nullify his speed advantage - Hopkins and Calzaghe both could’ve done in let’s say in 2002, in a very different way of course.

I’m not predicting anything, Roy by close UD would be my guess, but let’s just put it this way: if there’s no Ruiz, Tarver would’ve still made Roy fight for his life, and if not Tarver, Calzaghe could’ve trashed the untouchable Roy myth. It all took an extra close fight for Roy, and he was never the same again.

People say Roy ducked DM,Benn and McClellan, but yet he fought and beat Hopkins and Toney, who were definitely better than the former 3,as well as Tarver for chrissake. And the same Hopkins that beat Tarver lost 2x to JERMAINE TAYLOR so anyone that says that Hopkins is still great because he beat limited Kelly Pavlik needs their heads examined. And far as DM,Calzaghe and Jones are concerned,Jones said that he wouldn't fight outside the US after being robbed in the '88 Olympics. He has never denied this.Never.And what about DM?He spent his whole career fighting in Germany, stepping out just once to fight in neighboring Poland,so enough with the nonsense that Jones ducked him.And I used to be a Calzaghe fan,but he did claim in his autobiography that Jones was shot due to his brutal ko losses to Tarver and Johnson, but then talked Jones up as if he were still a great fighter when the fight was signed. In other words,Joe lied through his teeth to make himself look better ie beating a legend.

I would have liked to see Calzaghe try to pull the dancing **** he did in their fight, against a Prime RJJ....Jones would have made him roll on the floor before he could even blink..:rasta

Roy Jones by wide UD. I dont think he stops him, that wasnt really Roys style to look for the KO. But he sure does humiliate him.

In my honest opinion having seen every one of both men's world title fights (and some of Roy's early career pre-world title fights), peak Roy Jones would dominate peak Joe Calzaghe. Without going into too much detail as it is a subject I have written on so much I've even bored myself with it - Roy is Joe Calzaghe's nightmare. He is faster than Joe, and Joe's sloppy defence would be breached again and again and again by lightning quick shots. And NO-ONE can eat clean shots from peak Jones all night, NO-ONE. Jones mid-late rounds stoppage while well ahead on points.

The zero fools the Calzaghe hoardes, but in reality he was never, never on a similar level to Superman.

Eubanks was past his best. He took the fight on 2 weeks notice and had been out of the game for awhile before that.

Lacy is a bum. He nearly got KO'd by Mendoza on friday night fights. Jermaine Taylor beat him just as widely as Calzaghe did.

His biggest win is Mundine. Nuff said.

Hopkin was a good victory. Even though Calzaghe barely landed a punch and largely won of activity and punches that really arent punches.

More then a farce. Calzaghe said he didnt want to fight Jones because he been knocked out too much. Said it in his biography. So instead of fighting a young prime fighter, he fights roy.

Really its the template for Joes whole career.

Please show where roy said this.

If you fight tons of bums and you are a somewhat elite level fighter of course you should win all your fighs. Fighters are judged off who they beat, not who you think they could beat. And Joe didnt beat anyone of note during is time as WBO champ.

He doesnt outpoint Dawson with relative ease, I'll tell you that. Infact he would probably lose.

:deal This guy is a well-known ****** who knows zero about boxing.

Robin Reid pushed Joe all the way in his young "healthy hands" days, Kabary Salem and Byron Mitchell floored him, an ancient Bernard Hopkins confused the hell out of him, and the corpse of Roy Jones dropped him on his ass.

If you think that guy does anything except lose, and lose big, to peak Roy Jones you should log out and never return.

Here's hoping 'FrochPascal' you teenage Union Jack fanboy. If you knew anything about the sport prior to Carl Froch's big win, we wouldn't be having this discussion.

whatever you say is like trash to me and has no merit to it. Your hate clouds your judgement.

Every time you mention calzaghe you sound like some love sick puppy. Clearly you have some issues to sort out. Hope it goes well
