The thing is Jones stands at least as much chance of ko'ing most of these and not just because he's an underrated puncher with the power, accuracy, speed and timing. We know Marshall, Moore, Foster were ko'd numerous times in their primes, Spinks the 1 famous time. Jones would land power shots and plenty of them easier than anyone they faced due to his speed.

Tunney, Fitz and Marshall fight with a low guard and that makes it easier for Jones to land lead power shots on them. Those fighters were reliant on speed and reflexs like Jones, but Jones has the better speed and reflexs so lands first. We saw how Tunney got caught by Dempsey's left hook, Jones is left hook is much faster and he would surely find a home for it

oh good god, i hope the current jones doesn't face any of the guys i listed. as of right now i think Lebedev is about to put him in the hospital, sadly. We're talking about the best versions of him at 160, 68, and 75 I guess

I am not saying that Jones couldn't KO some of these dudes. I just said that I thought these guys have the best chance against him(favorites is something i'm not willing to get into with RJJ as i think his true prime ability is unknown, untested). As for Tunney and Dempsey. He didnt get tagged often by that ****, and was able to do a great job keeping himself away from Dempsey. I just see the sharp straight counterpunches having a lot of mustard on them doing jones wrong, same actually with Fitz and Marshall. Low guard has it's advantages if you have either the proper defensive skill or physical ability to compensate, and all three had some combination of the two

I think Contehs height and reach advantages coupled with his technical skills and power would at some point get to Jones. Or do you mean we have to assume Jones could hold a shot because we did not yet know he could not ? ( whatever the reasons for that weight making coming down from heavy etc ). I think Conteh , Spinks, Muhammad, Foster etc and others would beat him at 175

And Joey Giardello, the boxing wizard, woul'dve taken the unproven Jones to Hogwart's and schooled him, in wizardry

Well, at mw he just lacks the experience to hang in with the top guys. Physical talent (and good ring intelligence) carries you only so far. That´s why IMO he loses to most of the true elite fighters there, there are somes he has some stylistical advantages over and thus should be favoured though.
Smw is too young. The only elite fighters who competed there are Jones, Toney and Calzaghe. He already beat Toney and I think he beats Joe C. too - even so I like Joe´s chances.
At lhw, there were plenty of guys who just were better. Charles, Moore, Spinks, Tunney, Conn were all already mentioned. But I bet there are lower regarded fighters who´d beat him too. Foster has a good chance. Hell, I give Berlenbach a good one as well.
IMO Jones get´s a bit overrated due to looking so awesome when beating his opposition but well, who were they on average?

btw. who calls me a hater no, can consider himself a fanboy. :smooch

How well do you guys think Jones does against the cuties and spoilers, the outside specialists?

    Pastrano
    Williams
    Burley
    Loughran
    Rosenbloom
    Philly Jack O'Brien

etc? any points of reference in his career here for the more mobile/brainy types?

Billy Conn, Ezzard Charles, Bob Foster, Archie Moore all in their primes could possibly beat RJJ.

Hopkins, Toney, McCallum (past prime) Mallinga (a level below but world class), Reggie Johnson (past prime), Hill (past prime).

McCallum managed to time Jones a little. Griffin fought a perfect fight, he managed to time his jab well enough to the head and importantly the body to set up combinations and his defensive footwork, head movement and shoulder rolling meant he was 1 of the few who could make Jones miss and made Roy look awkward. Whether that was a bad night for Roy though or if RJJ adjusted for the rematch is something I'm not sure of

Freddie Steele's my wild card choice for beating him at 160. I think he'd knock out a young Jones at middleweight. Fast, smart fighter with exceptional knockout power and great movement and footwork. Could put his punches together, too. What Freddie was vulnerable against, isn't the type of fighter Roy is.

I think Freddie's a terrible matchup for Jones.
