Ok I sometimes see people on this forum say Roy Jones doesn't have a chin and I have tried to understand this because although Roy having incredible reflexes was still hit from to time in his prime by people who have power and some who have power to some capacity. For instance his fight with Lou Del Valle, his fight KD. Lou fought Hill sometime before his fight with Roy and knocked Hill down with a straight left. So the guy has some power, as Hills chin has been tested. In this clip Roy didn't see the punch coming and had his head completely turned for some reason. He got hit flush, his legs slipped underneath him and he got right back up. He wasn't wobbled, he wasn't really that dazed and he continued to fight cautiously and covered up for the reminder of the round and went on to of course dominate the whole fight and knock the guy down in the 12th. He had his legs under him and he seemed to take the punch well, or at least recover pretty well. It was a hard ass shot you will hear the sound impact it makes on RJJ face. If he didn't have a chin or was, like some say, china chinned he would've never got back up or when he did he would've been out on his feet and the fight would've been stopped. And this is a better test for his chin, considering that it is when he was in his prime. Probably not his most spirited proformance, but he won the fight easy. [yt]qI-ohNDPjYc&NR[/yt] and this one since it is clearer but has a much shorter duration. [yt]2cxQLsyx_hY[/yt] Also if you observe his fights with B-Hop he was hit, James toney he was hit (but not much) John Ruiz definitely, and others (probably hit the most by Montel Griffin in the first fight with some HARD shots -- if he had a china chin he would've been KO'd). If he had a glass jaw would've scattered in anyone of these fights and that's not to mention his others. So what is the verdict? He got too old? the muscle loss screwed him? He didn't have any desire anymore? He got caught by a shot which would've KO'd anyone and it ruined his punch resistance? Not that I count the Johnson fight as being any indication. He looked horribly shot in that fight, with no desire, and was broken down over the course of 9 rounds where he got hit with everything but the kitchen sink. Thoughts?
Roy had a fine chin, the extreme weight loss is obviuosly why he was knocked out. Chris Byrd had a great chin at Heavyweight, too good actually, and after he dropped all of that weight it was gone. All this talk of chin is non-sense, almost always it has to do with the fighter being exhausted or not really wanting to be in there, or of course his technique.
That shot Lou Del Valle hit him with was right on the button. Had that been a shot thrown by a "Power" puncher....who knows? I give Roy credit for taking that shot. But that's almost the exact same shot Tarver landed against him. (How good is Calzaghe's straight left?)
agree totally with the thread starter, as this has been a thing I have spoke about numerous times. Rj got KO'd due to weight loss. Butregardless of the fact the shot by tarver wouldve knocked ne 1 out, that was a accurate left hook he threw with plenty of power behind it. People always say Johnson is feather fisted, when his KO percentage is over 50 so I dont kno how thats exactly feather fisted. He has some pop RJ chin was good, not the best but it was good
