Not at all sure who would win this one, despite familiarity with the careers of both fighters. Surprised at the widespread dismissal of J C C's chances against Duran. Chavez was one of the greatest fighters I've ever watched on tape. He really did a number on a peak Edwin Rosario and beat all comers for many years.

This would be an extremely enjoyable fight. I don't think people are necessarily discounting JCC, who I personally think is one of the top fighters out of Mexico in history, but he's being pitted up against very likely the greatest LW of all time, and against someone who is actually a better outboxer than him and then a better inside tactician with a better chin.

    I'd like Duran over 15

Seems to me that a lot of posters ARE discounting J C C's chances, northpaw. Which is their prerogative, of course. Did Duran have a better chin than Chavez? Duran was decked twice during his lightweight reign, that I know of, whereas Chavez had been fighting something like fifteen years before someone (Frankie Randall) finally put him on the canvas. And I'm not convinced Duran is a demonstrably superior boxer, either. Best, D.

Chavez was great, but Duran was just better. I’m not sure what advantages Chavez has (other than maybe chin and both are excellent) or what game plan he can do to win.

Duran by UD. Competitive but clear

Don't agree with your post - but it is very amusingly expressed!

You're dead right about peak Chavez strength. He's one of the greatest fighters I've ever seen. Steadily relentless.

Honestly...imagine this in the mid to late 80s. Trumpets, bongos going off. Big entourages and a stare down. Could've been awesome.

Duran was fienting Leonard into knots after he staggered Ray in the 2nd round. Duran was landing his righthand lead from midrange at the sametime made Leonard miss more than anyone did in 3 fights.

Sometimes, it’s just that way. Think Moore against Charles, or Frazier with Foreman.

Great - & I mean truly great as he is - I cannot ever envision Chávez defeating Durán.

Chavez was an excellent workman with enough pop in his hands to hurt you and had great stamina, however Duran had power, technique, tremendous skills and speed.
both men took good shots, and both went to the body well but Duran more explosive and versatile- Duran UD 12-15

I think with two strong, powerful punchers Duran would probably be advised to use a dimension Chavez didn't have. Roberto could box him, be patient and look to counter. Duran 's defense would be a problem for JCC.

Then later in the fight Duran would go in the ally with him after he tortured his body for several rounds. I would guess that would be Arcel and Brown's strategy.
