You take offence ??? well to be honest mate that is how most of the rest of the sporting world see it, bias I mean and no, Americans like Australians are not an ethnicity no matter how you take it, we are made up of all ethnicities these days, it is one thing that defines us. I don't mean to anger you but we do see American fight fans as usually being all about the American fighters, of course it is a generalization, and of course you may not fit that mould.

Also McGoo there is nothing at all wrong about saying America is more a culture than an ethnicity, hell Hollywood, Mickey Mouse bugs Bunny John Wayne, Blues, jazz rock and Roll are all American features.

I'm not here to debate the subtle differences between a culture and an ethnicity. Only that blanket statements are ignorant and that the ones who accuse others of bias are usually most guilty of it themselves. So the rest of the world sees it that way huh? Taken very many international surveys on American's interest in fighters have you? If Americans had no interest in fighters abroad then how come we've personally hosted numerous fights over the decades involving Roberto Duran, Carlos Monzon, Julio Cesar Chavez, Lennox Lewis, the klitscko's, Amir Kahn and yes even your very own Jeff Harding and Jeff Fenech ? How come there are so many American fight fans on websites like these conversing about fighters outside our borders even years after they've retired? Sorry but there's no getting around it.. It was an ignorant remark, and frankly you don't see too many of us on here making such statements about Australians, English, or otherwise.

First of all, my screen name is spelled MAGOO... Not MCGoo. And secondly, is that all you think Americans are about, is television and media figures?

    I agree.

    Well, each case is different.

Quarry was just outclassed. Quarry's style and abilities were not suited to taking on Ali. Quarry's extremely overrated.

Lyle was caught with a good punch. If you're going to argue that Ali fought down to his opponents then surely the Lyle fight would fit that category, since Ali was having trouble with Lyle up to then.
Lyle was coming off an absolutely schooling at the hands of Jimmy Young. Lyle is overrated too.

Wepner. Ali clearly didn't bother training for that one. He looked fat.

Against Lubbers he looked in fairly decent shape. Lubbers was a pretty good fighter on that night. He fought smart, using jab and left hook to start his attacks. He did better than Quarry because on that night he was better than Quarry.

    Go Lubbers !

Of course Lubbers would probably get battered by Marciano.
    I agree with that too.

Muhammad was nursing his right hand in that fight as I recall. A gutsy effort from the Dutchman, though. I loved Ali's inter round interview.

Of all the wonders of the world, none were so magnificent as the almighty and powerful Rudibaker Lubbers.. He could eat mountains and drink Rivers.. Its futile to compare anyone to Lubbers.

No one played down to his competition like Ali, at base he was a showman.
