Sugar Ray Robinson loses to 160 Bernard Hopkins.

Roy Jones Jr makes Jake LaMotta look like one of the many "cab drivers" people claim he beat down.

The guys Robinson had a "Draw" with in his prime, like Jose Basora and Henry Brimm, Roy Jones knocks them out in 3-6 rounds.

    Prime RJJ=GOAT.

    This..

Though I can't outright pick someone I would favor over Jones, fighters fought way more times a year back then.. It was a lot easier to show up and have an off night. MW Roy was also a young fighter.

Interesting question, I imagine it would be very difficut.

Talent alone doesn't get you where Jones was either, he was incredibly skilled. He simply faded too fast to adjust his style. But as time wears on, he would probably fare worse against the likes of Fullmer and Basilio.

I don't think Roy faded fast at all TBH. He became past prime at the same age every other great went past prime around his time. Roy got knocked out at 35 years old, 50-0. I think if you keep fighting at the top level after 35 years old is because you either started late or you are just highly defensive, or both.

Make no mistake, 35 is old for any athlete excluding Golf players.

All those greats around his time, Whitaker, Chavez, etc. also became past their best at 32-35 years old. That is like "Thee" age in boxing, or any sport for that matter, where your time comes.

I don't even know how a discussion like this can occur. Jones fought at 175 during most of his career and SRR at 160 sometime even at 147.

Add to the fact that SRR fought better comp than Jones did.

That's like saying Tyson goes through Jones opponents undefeated.

What the hell does it even mean??

Roy would lose on the scale to Zivic and Gavilan. So no.

Robinson knocked Basora out in a single round in the rematch. At his very best, Roy would be favored over every single one of Robinson's opponents, but the point is, he wouldn't always be at his very best. Not if he's fighting every other week. Robinson actually once had a span in which he had five fights in just four weeks! He still went 132-2-2 in his first 12 years as a pro, beating every opponent he ever faced.

Another point is that Jones would hold a considerable size advantage over the vast majority of Robinson's opponents bar Maxim, which is a bit of an unfair advantage in the comparison as Robinson was often the smaller man in his fights. Then you consider that, even with 20-some years and hundreds of fights behind him, Robinson was still able to beat ranked contenders while in his 40's. Jones couldn't even do that in his own era, despite having several months to prepare for a single fight and just 15 years/50 fights behind him.

So yeah, no, Jones is not the GOAT. While he is one of the rare few who can be put on the same level as Robinson in regards to his ability on film, all things taken into consideration, he actually pales in comparison to Sugar Ray.

yeah sure in theory he was good enough, if Jones could remain 'prime' for all those fights, but thats not likely, but to answer the question, yes a prime roy would be able to do it - Jones would also have a size advantage, apart from certain middleweights and joey Maxim
