Not quite "inevitable" - Griffin had been shaken and down earlier in the fight, and come back to win rounds each time. If Jones had shared the same confidence that he'd taken control, he wouldn't have fouled him the way he did.

...after Jones had time off to regroup, rewatch films of Griffin, and plan a whole new strategy.

A different story than trying to adapt to an opponent on the spur of the moment, while the a fight is still in process.

It was just a moment of madness that's all. He'd clearly turned the fight around, and Montell was ready to go.

He wasn't even hurt, he faked it.

Roy was rightly DQ'd, but Montell looked for the way out. I've seen it hundreds of times. He knew what was coming.

Roy didn't rewatch films, he was just pissed with a point to prove.

At the time of the stoppage, Roy was winning the fight and had clear momentum.

Granite chin, inhuman stamina and heart. He would get in on Roy and take him out over 15

Those great attributes wouldn't have been enough to overcome Roy's skill, speed and power.

How would he have got in on Roy?

I don't think he'd have gotten anywhere near him.

    This..

Roy clearly was turning the fight in his favor as time went on.. Griffin did go to a knee to avoid getting KTFO.. I think Roy hit him out of frustration that Griffin was going down to play it safe, when Roy knew he had him.. And of course Griffin was fighting a brilliant fight, about the best he could have hoped for... I think it was annoying the hell out of Roy that the awkward little ******* wouldn't go away.

Griffin totally faked that, he looked up at the ref in disbelief momentarily before deciding to fall on his face.. He wanted out of that fight, he knew Roy was beating him. He could have continued and had a point taken away from Roy, but he wasn't confident enough that would even get him the decision.

Roy said immediately he wanted the rematch, he didn't watch film, it was no master plan to solve Griffin's style.. He simply was pissed, gave Griffin's power no respect, walked him down and knocked him out.

Actually there was a plan. Griffin's entire attack was around not giving Roy the left hook. If you have followed his career, Roy around this time had gotten very left hook happy. He tried to feint Griffin into a left hook by the short jab, and it didn't work. He tried to counter Griffin off the ropes like he did Merqui Sosa and Bryant Brannon and it didn't work. In the middle rounds, he went to the straight right lead and landed it consistently. Griffin was ****ed. In the rematch, Griffin was watching for the straight right and was hurt by the first hook Roy threw. It was over from there. Great adjustments from Roy.

Roy wasn't your average slick fighter.. His ability to hit and not be there to be hit was on another level even to the great Robinson. Roy would be too big, fast and strong... I don't think Lamotta has a good chance against Roy H2H..

I still don't know how Roy landed that leaping left hook/uppercut with so much power the way Griffin was moving back... That was an ATG punch right there.

What some of you don't understand is Chins matter when you are talking about head to head match ups with ATG's.

This isn't Richard Hall or Glen Kelly we are talking about Roy fighting. This is a bona fide P4P fighter.

I don't pick Roy in many ATG head to head fights because of his Glass Jaw.

Lamotta generally feasted on welters, he would stand no chance against Roy at mw or smw.
It would be a rare case where LaMotta would be outsized.

And Roy had dynamite in his fists, and trust me.
Surviving against Robinson is no where close as hard as surviving against Roy Jones.

No disrespect for Sugar, but Roy is h2h a few classes above Sugar, primarily because Roy is also a few weightclasses heavier than Sugar.
