    Wow..

We all know Robinson was greater without you having to unfairly downgrade Roy.

As my username suggests, I'm a fan of RJJ but no, fighters like Lamotta, Basilio etc will always give RJJ trouble if not outright beat him.

But I think it can be said RJJ has a competitive chance with them and thats enough of a tribute to his talent.

Stylistically, no, bro, LaMotta and Basilio don't stand a chance. I understand you're trying to be unbiased as a fan of his, but no. Just no. Stylistically, Roy would toy with JL. I just can not see it. The question for those fights would be more like Roy Jones in how many rounds?

If you thought Roy Jones looked like a beast against the likes of defensive geniuses like Hopkins and Toney, forget about way less defensive fighters like JL and Basilio.

    A pointless thread.

Ray at his peak was at 147.

Roy at his peak was at 168. Obviously there wasn't a 168 division in Ray's day.

Both were incredible fighters, but you can't compare the different era's and the circumstances involved.

Ray lost to La Motta, then rematched him just 3 weeks later.

He was fighting every month at one point, and had 200 fights in a 25 year career.

I just don't see the point in the debate.

    Exactly!

I'm Roy's biggest fan, and I've no problem with anyone saying Ray was better. But this thread is pretty pointless.

Hopkins and TOney are not pressure fighters like Lamotta and Basilio. They'll take a shot to get in and inside is where RJJ was always less comfortable.

I will not quote every one bringing up the size difference. I will just repeat an earlier post in this same thread, I am talking about P4P basis.

Like the example I said, I will say it again for those who do not read the entire discussion, if you say Mayweather goes through Pacquiao's resume undefeated, it is obvious you mean on a P4P basis, given the fact that Mayweather will not make 108-126 pounds. It's no different here.

P4P, prime Roy goes through SRR's resume undefeated. I didn't think I'd have to mention such a thing on a boxing website full of hardcore boxing fans.

And you being the big fan you are of Roy, you probably have watched enough fights to know that the hardest thing to do to a prime Roy is get that close to him that you can fight inside. Or are we imagining that Roy Jones was flat footed and would actually stay there for the pressure fighter could get close to him and make a dog fight?

Pressure would be nothing to Roy, he had stamina to fight the 12th round like he did the 1st round. And how much pressure would you able to put on Roy when you are getting hit by lightning fast punches, and these were not Meldrick Taylor type of flashy punches, these were KO blows to the head at a speed that the human eye could not register unless shown in slow motion.

    Kevin,

So are you basically saying that Roy would beat any fighter who Ray ever fought when he was at his best?

You're not talking about if Roy fought 200 times, and fought every month like Ray did at one point?

You're not having Roy following in Ray's footsteps, you're just saying a peak Roy would have beaten any opponent of Ray's on a given night. Yes?

We should make people on this forum take an IQ test on here to stay. SRR started at WW and moved up to MW RJJ started at MW and went up to HW. he would have to fight more frequently and even injured

if Jones was to fight Basillio and Lamotta in one off fights and not the way that Robinson did it, then Jones would pretty much dominate those two. Jones was quite cautious in the ring so wouldn't fight their fight. he'd use his speed to stay on top in every second.
