Recency bias and nostalgia are as equally strong for people. It's easy to believe someone's better when they're the current era. The same goes for a fan's favorite fighter growing up. Being objective isn't easy sometimes, but it's truly the key.

 

I think nostalgia runs too strong in this forum most react like it's blasphemy to suggest a current era fighter beats a old legend

As good as Roy Jones was he has alot of has beens on his record and more than his fair share of loses to great fighters so why is out the realm anyone from today could beat him especially considering how big and strong and high iq today's fighters be

Roy in his prime from the early 90s to naughties was the best fighter I have seen in over 30 years

Fair enough but Bivol moves his head after jabbing while Hill didn`t so was easy to counter.

 

In a twilight zone version of the universe they are favourite to beat Roy, in any other reality Roy is odds on favourite to beat both of those two, Bivol and Beterbiev are good operators, but there are levels to this, neither have a proven pedigree of beating anyone close to Roy’s class, I wouldn’t classify either favourite to beat prime Hopkins or Toney let alone Roy Jones.

He misses, and uses the impulse to get out of the distance by his oponent's weak hand's side. His oponent has to pivot and loses the oportunity to counter after dodging.

Flawless. We cant hit every punch sometimes we miss, that's unavoidable. Even missing, he did the right move.

I have no words to define how stupid is to say that RJJ had bad fundamentals. GOD level of stupidity.

He misses the same punch, gets out of balance, instead of using his impulse to get out of his oponent's way he stands still, and is countered.

RJJ in your video does better than hagler in those both situations, getting out of his oponent's way using an angle, forcing him to pivot and avoiding the counter.

Hagler's fights are full of moments where his balance is copromised by a missed shot. Exactly the same as any other fighter, including of course RJJ. Still, roy jones' choice in the video you posted was the smartest choice possible.

I can honestly say I can not remember a fighter in his prime I would rather watch than Roy...His use of Angles and movement were a thing of beauty....They talk about ATGs but Roy in his prime was one without question.!!!!
