Are we not referring to Jones in his prime? Jones was not in his prime when he fought Tarver. To answer the question for me Jones was sliding toward outside of his prime around the Clinton Wood fight. Yes a fighter can loose to another fighter in his prime there is no shame in that, but Roy wasn’t in his prime, anyone can see that.

The facts are Jones has beaten hall of fame calibre fighters Hill, Toney, Hopkins, McCallum, Tarver, Trinidad, and other elite level fighters. Who exactly has either Bivol and Beterbiev fought to make you think they can bridge the gap from world class to elite? What stand out performance have you seen from either and against who, to think that either would come out on top against Jones?

 

Light heavys hit too hard and are too big yet he went up to HW and beat a much bigger man in Ruiz lol

Run of the mill fights that he couldn't get "up" for. Look at what happened when he had fights which could get him out of bed in the morning e.g. James Toney (shutout win), Montell Griffin rematch (punched him all around the ring and knocked him out inside a round).

Who did Jones exactly beat at light heavy to show he'd beat either of them? Prime or not Jones resume at light heavy isn't great that's my point ?

 

Ruiz? John ****ing Ruiz it's laughable he was ever a champ in the first place battered on a old holyfield then could only draw the rematch then was losing again Kirk Johnson before the dq someone like canelo of today would probably of beat Ruiz back then

 

Um he was mid 30's and had just come back down from heavy which was a hard cut. The fact he was visibly not the same after that you prolapsed anus.

Virgil Hill was an getting on a bit when Jones beat him but he did go on to win world titles afterwards, Montell Griffin was a bit in and out, but was in good form when Jones beat him, but as we all know Jones best opponents came at a lower weight class, but he outgrew it and fought pretty much was out there at the time.

Now back to Bivol his best win of his career regardless of weight is against against an older Pascal and Joe Smith. Beterbiev maybe Cloud and Johnson, overall Jones beat better opponents. Jones won a world title at heavyweight obviously against a not unbelievable but stronger heavyweight champion, so I’m sure he could handle Beterbiev and Bivols strength.

If we are going on records I wouldn’t consider Beterbiev or Bivols resume to be particularly impressive.

 

Did you even follow Roy at that time??? Feel free to post the # of boxers who moved back down near 20 pound mostly muscle and still looked amazing...
