Watched Monzon stumbling around the ring against featherfisted Tony Licata just recently via the magic of YouTube and the memory makes me chuckle at the idea of him trying to corral a prime RJJ.

I dont think any fighter in history below 175 is beating Roy.

Carlos finds Jones a little to fast and akward to stamp his authority on . Jones by Decision.

Monzon has a fair chance of stopping Jones.

Monzon has never fought anyone with the combined speed (both hand and foot) and punching power as Jones. Also Monzon has never been stopped but he has been badly hurt by lesser opponents. Jones is the only MW that I'd favor over my all time favorite MW in Hagler. Jones by wide UD or late stoppage. Monzon can't dictate the pace against a fighter as dynamic as Jones and who is the same size as him.

At 160 lbs Roy would get a boxing lesson from Monzon.

Monzon beats Jones Jr...you guys are doing your usual thing..you're overrating Jones and underrating...painfully underrating Monzon. This no hapless, part time, postman/fighter here in King Carlos.

    True.

But that has been that way for awhile and all the media attention and admiration for flash. Easy to sell flash.

As for the bout, Jones has to work way too hard to keep this guy away. His gastank will be near empty by the 9th round and here he is in there with a style he has not fought---gets stronger as the bout goes on. Monzon walks through him and really starts roughing him up on the inside and Jones cannot tie this guy up. He can only try wearing the ear muffs.
So sometime around the 10th, Jones can only use those legs sparingly. And the reach of Monzon becomes a bigger factor and he is the guy landing more frequently. So it is Jones playing the absorb game. Hardly his best attribute and a huge advantage for Monzon in the bout. But sometime after the 12th round, Jones gets clipped and goes like Benvenuti in the first Monzon bout. In a heap and a devastating ko loss that will take something out of him. Monzon too patient in there. Turns it into a physical bout and not a lets feint on the outside only type fight.

Watching Jones box Thomas Tate was pretty amazing. It was almost like Jones had hacked the Matrix or that he interacted with gravity differently to you and I.

That said, he was 25-0 going into that fight.

Both Monzon and Jones are among the best fighters to have ever lived, and although it pains me to say it, I'd have Jones higher up that tree than Monzon by a smidge - not a lot of room for tiers up there.

The problem is that Monzon's prime performance, maybe, was Bouttier I. Going into that fight, Monzon was 75-3-9. So in terms of experience this was a total mis-match. You had a cut-throat pure-bred winner who had seen it all and done it all against a pup.

I'd be picking Monzon to derail Jones badly over 15 and maybe just get over the line against him in a 12 round fight.

I'd go with Jones by close UD but it is in no way the easy fight for Roy that many people here claime, Carlos was far too good and consistent at MW to be beaten easy by anybody.

Jones and frankly he would make monzon look ponderous and as slow as molasses in January. Nobody beats Jones at his best below 175 imo. His blinding speed would see monzon catch leather he never saw coming. Could be lights out

Old thread, the is how I see it. Jones would outclass Monzon and might even stop him late.
