Although I think G-Man is overrated, I do pick him over a lot of the top MWs of the past. Not necessarily because McClellan was that special, but the fact that he was like 180+ pounds when he entered the ring.
roy RARELY got hit cleanly back in those days and his chin was significantly stronger. if he can survive the first (i think he does) he takes it with an easy UD
No, Jones couldn't have taken one of McClellan's clean right hands. If he could, he couldn't have taken a second one. Jones was a bit better pro than McClellan because of his footspeed and ability to avoid being hit cleanly. Both had tremendous power with McClellan having slight edge. Jones was faster, but not signifigantly. I would lean towards Jones ever so slightly based on their styles. McClellan had a very good chin and good boxing skills as well. If McClellan had not have gotten injured, we would be talking about him as an ATG IMO.
I know G-man beat him in the AMS, but I heard that Roy outpointed him at another time. anyone have knowledge of this?
Jones would have to survive the early rounds and would have to box smart. I would pick him by a unanimous decision, but if he got caught at the end of a big right hand, it's good night Roy.
Im going to be honest here.....I beleive Roy Jones was on steroids the majority of his career. After he was named in the Balco scandel I dont beleive he ever KO'd someone again. In fact he got KO'd twice almost 3 times. the only reason really no one knows of this is because they where to busy chasing Barry Bonds. Lucky for Jones boxing is dead. So to answer the question, Jones without Roids would be KO'd by Mclellan in 3.
