I believe the prime Calzaghe can outwork Roy to win four rounds, but that's his ceiling. He can't get the KO, and he can't deal with the superior mirror image of himself to actually win. Roy probably focuses on defense and then closes strongly. I don't envision him getting a KO, but a KD or two is possible.

A better question is prime Calzaghe vs. prime McClellan.

2 of the best ever at the weight. Which I dont think is all that of a distinction given its short history and the comparitvely rich history of Middle & Light Heavy.

Though Roy didnt have much of a career there, he basically had his career defining fight there and was smokin fools when he was there.

Roy doesnt KO Joe in 1 round, he doesnt absolutely humilate him but he would win this matchup 100 times out of 100 simply because he is the better fighter who has proven himself against the better opposition.

well....if Joe turns his wheels on decides to just try to survive he may last 6 rounds with Jones if he's having a bad day

168, at Calzaghe's prime? Calzaghe by SD (any other weight, Jones). Thread-starter still hasn't gotten over wet-dream idea of Hopkins emerging victorious vs. Calzaghe. Sad.

Jones was at his very best at 168 and could do nearly everything better than Calzaghe. I'd give Calzaghe the edge in chin and workrate, but speed, accuracy, power, defense all go to Jones.

Jones was at his best at 168 for four or five fights, at best, if that? Ridiculous.

Dominating a p4p fighter in James Toney > every single one of Joe's defenses

kesslar hurt joe a number of times and a prime roy at 168 was more powerful and more accurate. and throw alot more power punches.

roy would win by ko before 8. i noticed something about roy is he could have had alot more knock outs but chose to carry his victims to the end. most of his fights could have ended in a ok

Jones by stoppage or comfortable UD depending on the leadup to the fight. Calzaghe is too easy to hit and prime Roy was a monster and had much more of a killer instinct. Theres nothing Roy couldn't do better than Joe in his prime.

That was his best weight, clearly. I don't understand why you view this as ridiculous.

Now, if you want to argue that Roy's final fight at 160 -- a devastating KO over Thomas Tate -- was a peak showing, so be it. But you aren't going to find many Jones fans who would say that 168 wasn't his best weight.

Roy's best and most relevant win (Toney) at 168 far exceeds any win on Calzaghe's record. Toney was rated P4P#1-2 at the time of the fight and is a lock for the HOF. Slappy's best win is what Kessler?....a faded Eubanks? A 43 year old Hopkins? Roy could've stayed at 168 and dominated a weak division just like Calzaghe did most his career.
