James Toney couldn't, and IMO Toney was a better fighter h2h. It is because Calzaghe would be such a good opponent for RJJ that I think RJJ would raise his game and produce true timeless boxing brilliance.

RJJ had a few gears still to go up when he was annihilating everything in sight at 168 '94-'96, and Calzaghe would be stronger and more competitive than those guys, and would force RJJ to open up and really show the full extent of his magical abilities!

    I gotta disagree.

People keep talking about awkwardness and workrate.

Prime Roy was the workrate killer. He wasnt there to be hit and hit you back everytime you committed, he made you think twice about going after him.

I would not say Joe is as awkward as guys like Harding, Griffen or even Reggie Johnson. Roy got to them in the end, he just negated their awkwardness with pure speed.
Joe had a unique style which clearly worked for him but he did often make pretty basic mistakes that a fighter the calibre of Jones could capitlise on. Joe could often be very straight up and there to counter when he flurried, just he didnt fight anyone who could really may him pay for it.

Its definetly clear but its not a shout-out, Joe takes a couple of rounds. Toney did preciessly **** all in that fight and is a completley different type of boxer than Calzaghe. It would be Roys toughest night in Boxing but as you say would put on a masterclass and win 9-3 or 10-2 but no shut-out for me.

Roy gets his Glass Jaw shattered. Calzaghe would do what feather fisted Glen Johnson did. :smoke

RJJ by TKO in round 6. Completely one-sided fight.
