For the sake of discussion I suppose you're correct. I guess if someone was trying to devalue Cal's victory, then it'd be irrelevant. You never hear anyone say "a past prime John would beat a past prime Doe".

Winning streaks mean zero if the winning streak is against fighters you should be able to handle with ease. Rjj was past is best when they fought but so was Calzaghe.

If they both fought at their peak, assuming they were in the same division when peaking. Rjj's best form was really 68 as was calz..

So assuming they fought at 68, that could've been a fight for the ages. I can't see calz losing, he is so under rated on here it's baffling.

There are poster's on here that either troll every topic or truly don't know the first thing about this sport, and have no idea what they are watching.

I can't just rule out rjj, but if my life depended on it and there were truly unbiased scoring I would have to put my money on calz. I don't see how rjj could win more than a couple rounds, he could score a couple kd's which could make it close but, I see a 8/9 minimum rounds to calz and 3/4 max for rjj, plus I'll give rjj 2 flash kd's which give him two 10/8 rounds which really shoukd be 10/9 rounds because calz would win the 2 mins 30 secs of the round they actually engage in.

One would have to also assume, no matter how bad Joe's hands are, he wouldn't be holding anything back which means a kd or 2 and have to leave a tko open too.

Joe could win via points or technical stoppage,
Rjj could win via points or a shock of a tko, so highly unlikely , but anything can happen.. problem is we have hindsight and I've never seen calz truly stunned never mind hurt, so with what we all know now, a rjj stoppage is out of the question

    Jones by UD

Calzaghe was a very good fighter though. There's no shame in not being able to beat a prime Jones.

The list of fighters who would beat a prime Jones is pretty short.

Joe devalued his own victory, but that's another discussion.

I respect your opinions, even if I find them baffling.

You couldn't see Roy at 25 winning more than a maximum of 3/4 rounds?

You could see Joe winning 8/9?

    Based on what?

Roy was faster. He was more powerful. More accurate. He had more variation. He was much harder to hit. The only offensive attributes that Joe had were volume. But based on various comments he's made throughout the years, I don't think he'd have had the confidence to have really pressured Roy hard.

I find it extremely hard to believe, that a guy who was content to repeatedly defend his WBO belt, would have put it all on the line against a guy who he had great respect for, and again, who was faster and more powerful etc.

Again, I think had they had fought, Joe would have been extremely cautious.

Why would Joe have won 2 mins 30 secs of every round?

He dropped rounds to much lesser guys than Roy.

He was dropped by guys like Mitchell and Salem.

He was always susceptible to right hands.

Why would a stoppage for Roy be completely out of the question? I think it would be highly unlikely, but only because it would have been a very cagey fight. But if they'd have had a shootout, it'd got a TKO written all over it. Roy had genuine one punch knockout power in either hand.

Also, if you think Roy was capable of dropping him a few times, then why on earth couldn't he have kept him there?

    It makes no sense.

The trouble with RJJ is, by fighting on well into his 40s, it masks just how great he was in his prime. People often ask is he harming his legacy by still fighting? And the answer is 'yes' if reasonably knowledgeable boxing fans are only giving him 2-3 rounds against Calzaghe. I rated Joe highly but prime v prime it's hard to look past RJJ, and by narrow points decision would be my hunch.

Not at LHW where that fight was taking place and a division where Jones had won world titles.

    Calzaghe easily.

Jones was a fraud with a Glass Jaw, and a PED user.

A treat for the Calzaghe faithful. A display of Super Joe's supernatural blurring hand speed. Best make sure you're sitting down whilst watching this. Take a few deep breaths too.
