I agree...this is why this fight sucked for calzaghe...because if he won all people wouold say is a PRIME jones would whoop his ass...but this is the fight JC chose...he destroyed Roy...who everyone was saying was back to his old self...JC is not 23 years old...prime vs prime this is a 50/50 fight...Jones never beat a guy as good as JC in his prime

That is very sharp thinking right there. You can look at it mathematically: We all know that Roy was 21,5 times better in his prime. And since he florred Joe after only 100 seconds of boxing. You can then just pick up your calculator and determine with 100 percent certainty, that Roy in his prime would have knocked out Joe in less than 5 seconds. In about 3,8 to 5,0 seconds. There about. :p

You seem to not know much about RJJ past. Against Cal this would've been a big fight... In those fights you mentioned it was a unmotivated RJJ. Against Gonzalez for example, he could've KO'd him early but he decided to go the full 12 rounds. He KD the dude in the 1st round and he was hurt a lot. But RJJ didn't go in for the KO and had no problem with just going the full 12. In his MW and SMW days he went in for the kill - at light heavy he only did when the fight motivated him -- LIKE GRIFFEN, HILL, WOODS, HALL ETC. You have to remember how RJJ was, he would do what Mayweather did, had no problem with going 12 rounds and make it like a sparring session.

I've posted this for another topic but ill post it again.
People keep saying they are both old n not too far off each other in age to justify the fight.
But truth is sportsmen and women peak at different ages and Joe is closer to his prime than Roy is. Roy was sooo much further away from his prime.
Roys prime was when he was around 27-29(10-12 years ago) and Calzaghe when he was 31,32 (4,5 years ago)
Even if Roy fought Joe in his prime, after he had beaten Clinton Woods,Roy still would have won just and i feel by a close split decision(being 6yrs past it).
The fight proved Prime Roy> Prime Joe
Roy knocked Joe down at 39 and was way past his prime. I'm not saying that if they had met in their prime Roy would have absolutely demolished Joe.
Joe in his prime used to be more powerful in his shots. A bit faster in hands and footwork. But still a great tactician with superb relexes, footwork and audacity.
Roy was barely 20% of his proper self. His legs used to much more stronger and dynamic. And stronger, quicker legs mean better footwork and much more powerful shots. Roys stamina was 10x better and he would have thrown 10x as many punches and also the very quick single potshots and flurries when needed with no detrimental effects on his stamina.
Roy was faster in a single punch than Joe yesterday and in their primes he would have been faster not only in the potshots but he definitely could have gave Joe those flurries back at the same speed but with more power.
If the they met in their primes:
I believe with his quickness of foot he would have been able to close in on Joe land a combo like yesterday but with even more power- somewhere in the first 3 rounds. Joe would have went down, BUT got up! Joe would have been more dazed than he was yesterday and Roy would have tried to finish it off maybe.(Roy doesnt always finish of his opponents though as we all know- Roy knows that fighters can be at their most dangerous when they are hurt).
If he did Joe would have returned with quick powerful flurries and caught Roy with a great shot or 2. Roy wouldnt have been cut/ gone down as he had better resistance in his prime and because of his reflexes would have rolled with the shots and weakened them. ( Cuts wouldn't have been an issue like yesterday. Even if Roy wasn't cut Joe most probably would have won still but not by as many rounds as he did last nite.)
Then i think Roy would have decided to try and out box Joe for the majority of the fight. This is when Joe would have turned up the pace and force Roy to the ropes and flurry like hell. But i think Roy would have weathered the storm and also returned with his own quick n powerful flurries. By doing so Joe would have backed off and in terms of scoring would have been more or less equal.
Than Roy would have took it to the centre of the ring and outboxed Joe slightly with each feinting constantly and slipping and weaving each others shots bit Jones winning on cleaner, more powerful counterpunches( primarily lead right hands and left hooks to the body and a few lead uppercuts). They both would have landed on each other, but Roy would be ahead on the score cards because of the extra power effectiveness. This would have continued to Roy winning a UD with Joe winning at least 4 rounds, give or take. Or another route this fight could have been by Roy beating Joe be a TKO in one of the last 3 rounds. Joe would have felt the urge to up the pressure and win and by doing so become slightly careless. By this time Jones' stamina would have most certainly held up and Roy would have knocked Joe down. Joe would have got up and Roy would have gone for the kill landing some hard shots with Joe off his feet than the ref would have stepped in.
They would then go on to have a rematch for another close and worthy fight with the result going one way or the other.

He wouldn't stop Calzaghe, and Joe would likely win a few rounds, as he's a very adaptable, difficult fighter to deal with, but Jones would most certainly win, and win comfortably, were both fighters in their primes.

yeah right ... his punches didn't Ko an old Jones , I questioned Jones dedication to fight long ago , His camp was less then intense for a fight like this.

Anybody ever watch Jones before he lost about 1/2 of his movement and handspeed?

Calzaghe was actually the faster handed and footed guy in the ring yesterday. Not saying Calzaghe is slow, or has particularly slow hands, but Jones was a guy people compared to the likes of Meldrick Taylor and IMO was a beat faster than a prime SRL when it came to hand speed. Considering this, Jones had a terrible work rate yesterday and still managed to land some very clean shots.

Some very interesting looks I saw yesterday. Jones with his modified shell defense, showing his chin and trying to time a right cross from range.. Realize he does this to actually time a jab so he can throw a right cross over it in his prime. From here he used to actually lunge in circle RIGHT and throw a left hook right inbetween the guard which most fighters wouldn't be able to track.

Jones used to be able to control distance with his rediculous unorthodox moves coupled with footspeed, handspeed and reflexes.. There isn't really much anyone was able to do about it but wait for him to slow the **** down. Now that he's running half speed with dull as hell reflexes, he is very beatable.. So what?

Last night was a shop worn Roy. A 3 year laid off Tito went 12 rounds. Give me a break. But give the euros their mediocre bragging rights. They deserve one or two a generation.
