This came up in another thread that Morrison destroyed Ruddock...so Ruddock must stink (I am paraphrasing!)....How does a fight play out if Morrison had squared off with say a 1988 Ruddock?
I have to say I feel a prime Ruddock would beat a prime Morrison likely by devastating knockout. But you never know with these two because both sometimes looked very good and sometimes looked very bad both of them had KO power.
Morrison wasn't exactly prime in 95 either, better shape than Ruddock maybe. Both at their best, I would lean towards Ruddock but not with huge confidence.
Except for the fact that Ruddock actually has 1 more decision victory than Morrison, and against very comparable competition your post might be accurate....seems you always have a glitch or two that prohibits you from being truthful, correct and/or accurate...good try though....Otherwise it was a very convincing argument.
50/50. Ruddock had the better chin, punching power equal, boxing skills edge to Morrison. I see a back and forth battle with Ruddock ****ing up Morrison then Tommy finding a way out with the left hook. Haha similar outcome to their actual bout. Morrison TKO 9'
Both prime? Ruddock by KO. 2 big punchers (although imo Ruddock did KO a higher class of opposition than Morrison did) but Ruddock had a better chin, not nearly as fragile as The Duke. I could see Tommy doing quite well until the roof falls in on him.
Hang on guys, they did fight, remember? Both were past their best probably, Razor more so, but would the outcome really be any different a few years earlier? Ruddock always had the nasty habit of leaving himself wide open to a counter punch and there is always a chance that a booming hitter like Morrison could capitalise. A fight between them at an earlier time could have gone exactly the same way.
FoF, it could quite possibly have gone that same way, but the difficulty is measuring how far each of the fighters were further past their peak than the other. Fighters sometimes rematch when still both are prime & fight 2 can have a different outcome to fight 1, with the passage of time and deterioration in one or both fighters a different result becomes even more likely imo. My opinion is that the post Tyson & Lewis Ruddock was not nearly as resilient to punishment as he was prior to the Tyson & Lewis fights (which were extremely punishing), but Morrison had shown greater vulnerability against lesser opposition (i.e. Michael Bentt) even in his prime years. I think Razor had declined considerably from his peak, I'm not sure Morrison had; if anything, I believe Tommy had become more savvy and was better defensively at this stage of his career than when he was younger.
ruddock said years later that something broke inside him after 2nd tyson fight...that he was never the same afterwards....like tyson injured something internally in him that never recovered....i'm paraphrasing cause i havent got the quote to show.
Would have liked to see this fight in Las Vegas/Atlantic City. I always thought the stoppage a bit dodgy. But considering where they fought, I understand. Ruddock actually had good boxing skills but chose to ignore those talents in favor of his power. Ruddock admitted later in interviews that he wasn't the same after the Tyson fights. If they fought in KC/Oklahoma, Morrison takes it. Vegas/Atlantic city, I give the edge to Ruddock.
an interview razor gave with sean newman some years ago.. ........... SN: You were expected by many to win your fight against Lennox Lewis. What happened in that fight? Did you just get caught? RR: Yes, I just got caught, but realistically the fact of the matter is that Tyson and I finished each other. Lewis fought a shell of us both; he would have never wanted to fight us when we were still fresh. It?s true, he got a shell of us, and we weren?t the same after we fought each other. We fought two brutal wars. His eardrum was busted in the second fight and my jaw was broken, and we were just never the same. SN: You had a long layoff before fighting Tommy Morrison, and there were problems prior to the bout with your promoter. Were you physically and mentally in shape for that fight? RR: Yes, there were problems, but I don?t like to complain or make excuses. But yes, there were problems before the fight. I just went through with it because I come to fight. I think I was physically in shape. I don?t think I was totally mentally in shape. I could have beaten Tommy Morrison, no problem at all. SN: Morrison hit you with a tremendous left hook, but you bounced right back up. Do you think the referee stopped the fight too quickly there as well? RR: The referee stopped the fight way too early, trust me. You see what happens, when they got the opportunity to stop the fight on me, they would use that opportunity, because they were afraid of me. Tyson was afraid of me, Lennox Lewis was afraid of me, Morrison was afraid?I mean, the fact is when they get me in a compromising position it?s easy for the referee to stop the fight on my part because they know I?m dangerous.
Ruddock was the most over-rated heavyweight the past 25 years What did he do? and who was the best fighter he beat???? HE had one arm, (left) a shaky chin, so so chin, no defense, he couldn't box for ****, no footwork, or ring generaliship, the guy's he did beat , Dokes, Weaver, Page, were all over the hill and almost a decade past their prime.. Ruddock NEVER beat a prime top 10 heavyweight! everytime he stepped up he was KNOCKED OUT:dead, THE GUY WAS KO'D BY SOMEONE NAMED DAVE JACO FOR CHRIST SAKES As far as im concerned in 1995 both Ruddock and Morrison were close to their prime, that was right before Morrison got sick, and Tommy beat the hell out of him, i watched that fight about 2 months ago, and Ruddock looked scared and confused during that fight, and Morrison kicked his ass... Ruddock was no better than Joe Hipp, in my eyes and i think Hipp would have beat him...:deal
