A lot of solid heavyweights could have beaten the Ngannou version of Tyson Fury. I have Shannon the Cannon winning this by comfortable decision.
David Price would have sparked that Fury out, let alone Shannon Briggs. Hell, Tony Bellew would’ve too.
Briggs is a serious test even for a fully prepared elite fighter. Garbage-can version of Fury gets sparked out.
How many rails has Tyson had and how much ‘wild boar’ has he consumed? If it’s non-anabolic Fury, Harrison puts him back in the motor home.
Oh I just saw this was Fury of the Francis fight. Briggs' terrible stamina and leaky defense make this interesting. For some bizarre reason, Fury didn't establish his jab that often, nor did he use a lot of his nimble footwork (maybe his legs are gone now?). Those are the biggest things Briggs would have to fear and if they're not there, he just has to not fall for the herky jerky movements and avoid letting Fury lean on and wrestle him. 1) Briggs, despite all his various flaws, not only hits very hard he is a superb body puncher. Fury's got a gut the size of a dog and I think he'll be in for a long, painful night if Briggs manages to target the body consistently. 2) Briggs is strong and bulky as hell. Maybe not quite as much as Francis, but that leaning/grappling stuff probably isn't working on Briggs. He would force Fury to engage at mid range and it would get very ugly since Briggs hits harder than Fury and both guys are going to be getting very sloppy and gasping for air by the 6th round or so. Briggs also occasionally carries his power late. Conclusion: I'm confident Fury could survive to hear the final bell. If nothing else, Fury is still good at surviving when hurt as we saw against Francis. Would he win the decision? That I'm not sure of. I think it could go either way, but if Fury doesn't stop Briggs from battering his belly and forcing exchanges at ring center, Briggs win a very close decision. Fury simply can't beat strong elite boxers if he's not using his jab, movement, and being responsible on defense. He also relies heavily on his mauling/grappling tactics to bully smaller opponents which simply isn't an option in this matchup. He'd have to outbox Briggs which would be extremely difficult to do without his usual jab, maul, lean strategies. Gun to my head, the best version of Briggs (maybe 05-06) beats this version of Fury 6/10. But lesser versions of Briggs lose.
Run a poll Prime Fury vs Shannon Briggs from Vitali fight You're loading the poll against Fury. I get it, it's popular. What about average Fury vs average Briggs? Fury UD almost every time.
I rewatched Vitali v Briggs last night, that was a truly humbling night for Briggs, Shannon's head was the equivalent of a tennis ball being knocked around for 5 sets on Wimbledon centre court by peak Federer and Nadal
Ok ..lets do this . Im not any anyway shape or form a Fury fan , however Briggs prime was a heavy hitter but limited movement or combinations because of this he was dismantled by Lewis . NGannou Fury would be struggling against the weight of shots , but Briggs lack of movement (Plodding) would give him opportunity to tee off and get outta range . Long night for both but Fury by decision
