Nobody could underestimate Liston. He would have a much better chance than people think................
It sounds to me like a lot of people on this board have not watched Sonny Liston fight. (Other than maybe his two worst performances against Ali) Liston is definitely the more skilled boxer, and has a far better jab than Joshua. I like Joshua, and he is huge. He would be no easy task for anyone. But his chin is a bit suspect, and his stamina is definitely lacking. And I don't care how big he is, if Sonny Liston continues to land hard shots on ANYBODY , they are going down. Ali beat Liston with sublime movement that Joshua just doesn't have. The fight would look like Ali-Foreman, with Liston peppering Joshua until Joshua collapses in a mid to late round KO.
This. Liston had timing, head movement, a great jab, and could fight on the inside. He had trouble with light guys with great stamina, who could outjab and wear him down like Ali or Martin. I like Joshua, but his weight and stamina issues would work against him. 40 year old Liston 6' 1" 219 lbs vs. 6'5" 228 lbs Chuck Wepner This content is protected
As much as I like Liston, who has tremendous jab, I just think he is too small to handle the modern super heavyweight. Too much physical disadvantage to overcome plus he doesn't have the body movement and explosiveness of a Tyson, who I give a much better shot.
Joshua knocks him out. Usually when the classic fighter is outgunned, people backing the classic fighter point to some intangible like "heart" or something as the difference. Problem is, Joshua's got the advantage there, too IMO.
Liston like Foreman relied on the bully mentality...imagine those guys trying to bully the 6'6 240 plus pounder? Only in bizzaro world could you find other fans like boxing ones throw in inferior skills and x factors like Heart and use that to give Liston an edge here. SMH If Joshua actually fought like liston ,his detractors would have a field day on here.
