Prime Sonny Liston vs Prime Leotis Martin

Liston was passed his best but Sonny was not delivered as a stepping stone for Martin, going into the fight it could have been regarded as the other way around. Liston was doing a number on the kind of guys ambitious contenders beat to stay busy. Martin was out of the tournament and a win over him could have put Sonny up there with a shot against a champion. Who was favoured to win Liston vs Martin?

Here in America things have changed draatically, as in most other civilized places. Now just like most places absorbed decades ago re: race, most all decent human beings know denigrating gays or calling someone gay to insult them is as malicious & immoral as mocking someone for their race or religion.

I agree with that. When Martin stopped Liston, that was anything but a lucky punch. He set him up and timed him beautifully.

 

That's a good question chok, and I'm not really sure but...if Sonny was favored, and he might have been a slight favorite, Vegas has blown it many times before and they well could have been somewhat enamoured by the Sonny "aura". But I stand by what I said, there wasn't one fighter Sonny fought after Lewiston and before Leotis except for Clark that was worth anything. I guess you could say the same about Floyd's comeback two years after the Ellis 'iffy' bout, as he really fought no one for a year but he did have to get thru Bonavena to get his rematch against Ali which he did. Had Oscar stopped Floyd IMO you're looking at a sorta same Sonny-Leotis scenerio.
