Hii mate do you think that liston had the chin to take the savaGe attack from a young bully foreman? Liston was not a turtle but neither was a fast demon, i just can't see sonny outboxing George. I see it like a toe to toe fight where the bigger, stronger guy with the harder punch, better chin and bigger heart prevail. Of course that i think that sonny could hurt and even drop george but i think That a 74 foreman was a faster starter and he would land first. Explain me your scenario. Btw(it is curious because usually the people say "if lyle could hurt George then sonny could too" and i don't say that he could not but george sparred with liston and he never rated sonny as one of the hardest puchers that he fought or sparred with, however he did with cleveland Williams.foreman said that Liston was very a strong guy but never was impressed with his hitting power)
Lol.i admit that it is a surprise coming from me. I know that i should ignore certain posters when i read absolute garbage posts instead insulting them.i will work on it
I think Liston stops Norton around 4-5th round. Liston fought at a more measured pace than Foreman. Holmes, IMO, decisions Liston or stops him late. But Holmes had trouble with Mike Weaver, who was no walk in the park for him and if my eyes aren't deceiving me, Weaver did have him down. Liston >>> Weaver, whether stylistically, boxing skill and arguably punching power. So Liston could be a stern test for Holmes. But I think Holmes rallies to win a decision or late round TKO. This content is protected Foreman and Liston is a shootout, but Liston has the better boxing skills and Liston, if he utilizes his skills and takes Foreman pasts the mid rounds, brutally stops him. Brutal stoppage for either fighter before the mid rounds. If Liston was as powerful as said to be, this could end up like Fraizer/Foreman all over again. But, I think it'd be more like Frazier/Foreman 2 if a prime Liston fought a prime Frazier. This content is protected
I've always taken Liston over George. Liston had a fine chin at his best. He punches with about the same power as George, is just as strong and his punches are shorter and more compact. His punches would find a home inside many of George's wider swings and Liston too knew how to belt the body. He was also a better technician than George and had better stamina. Williams started fast and Sonny repelled him. I have no problem with Liston's heart. He took Clay lightly (he was out of shape) and i do believe injured his shoulder first fight. In the second he was obviously on the take imo.
The problem is that i don't think that it is truth at all. And Williams was not foreman not even close. And you need more than a fine chin to take this type of hitting power
The questions go both ways. The closest George faced to being able to hammer with him was Lyle. While i believe George was too timid early it still shows us that Liston would have a great chance. Lyle is no Liston. Liston need not brawl early. He could belt away with that awesome jab and counter Georges wilder attacks. Liston could box and had excellent fundamentals and was good defensively. For mine he is a better boxer and lacks nothing in power.
Where did George say he was never impressed with Liston's hitting power? I think you've taken a bit of a poetic license with this one. It's simply not true. Foreman actually said his right hand was a killer after being prompted about what a monstrous left hook and jab he had.
He'd stop Norton in 3. Lose to Holmes by 11 th round TKO Stops Frazier by 5 rd ko Is involved in a war with Foreman ,both men hurt but George eventually blasts through in the 6th .
Foreman never rated liston between the hardest punchers that he fought or sparred with.and it is a fact
I never said that liston was not the better boxer.norton also was... The key is that liston could not outbox foreman it is a fact he was not fast enough and foreman did cut the ring pretty well they finally would trade and forwman definitely had the better chin and the harder punch. (I see that you always did admit that foreman was not the same against lyle however you used this fight as a point in favour of liston haha). But yes sonny would be a good rival for george
