It doesn't work that way for guys with Leonard's frame/physique. No way could he have cut another 10 pounds (even another 5 would have been extreme). Seems more likely that he would have kept a little more mass on him and fought in the 150s on fight night.

BTW, even with same day weigh-ins, I'm sure that guys still regularly rehydrated 6/7+ pounds.

When they had same day weigh in, we saw wars in the ring and guys who were outweighed by 10+ pounds on fight night. Today fighters don't look spectacular and wouldn't stand a chance against past opponents.

I wonder if there is a connection between same day weigh in and performance level? :think

Yes, and my point is that boxers dehydrated to make weight during the same-day weigh-in era too. Guys didn't just start dehydrating (or "melting") in the last 30 years. There is a limit beyond which excessive dehydration harms a fighter, even if he has 24 hours to recuperate.

Where do you get that he was a natural 145?

the problem is "if" it doesn't harm the fighter its a huge advantage,,,

its a ART as well, "some" dudes simply don't adjust to it as well as other fighters do which can become a fair sized advantage.

Lmfaoo at Leonard making 135 today. How many brain dead posters are there on this forum?

Leonard is still a welter today. Hell, Leonard was a naturally bigger man than most welter of today.

Thurman, and Porter are midgets, for example.

Ray Leonard is 5'10, just like he's listed. UNLESS you're trying to tell me that Oscar is 5'8 as well.

Because there's numerous pics of Leonard and Oscar in pics together, and they're the same height.

Leonard was too BIG to ever make 135. He had a welterweight's height AND MORE importantly a welterweight frame. You're blowing the 24-hr weigh-in way out of proportion.

If Leonard was around today, he'd still be a welter, and with the 24-hr weigh-in would likely be coming into the ring at around 154.

The idea of Leonard EVER being a lightweight is lunacy.

I'm with you but I disagree re: Porter. Except for his height, Porter was naturally much bigger than Leonard. Highly decorated amateur career at middleweight; almost made it to the Olympics in the 165 class.

Going back to Leonard's height. If Ray was 5'8 as this guy John Galt says, then Terry Norris was like 5'7. Watch their fight and you'll see that Leonard is CLEARLY taller than Norris by at least an ince.

So once again I repeat, Leonard was a legit 5'10.

    5'9 I would buy more than 5'8.

There's simply too many pics of Leonard standing next to other fighters to claim he's 5'8.

Found a pic of Leonard and Roy together. Jones is only SLIGHTLY taller.

Floyd is around 5'8, and if you've seen the two of them in pics together Leonard is clearly taller.

SRL beat Benitez, Duran, and Hearns at 147. No one current has beaten even ONE fighter at that level.
