Skill wise and ability he would dominate. But could he keep pace
with fighting every two-three weeks and be successful? Against
fighters whom may not have had his ability, but mentally as hard
as steel? Damn near everyone he'd face would be tough men from
tough environments.... That would be the question, dealing with
    men who wouldn't concede....

My point!! After Duran 1, Ray never fought even up again. Back then he would be run out of the sport for cowardice. He was no physically or mentally tough enough.

He would be run out of the sport for cowardice?

I remember when watching the first Hearns fight, I was pretty sure he would lose. I figured that Hearns' speed, power and physical advantages would be too much even for Ray. And in the beginning it did look that way, but he didn't give up, he didn't try to spoil his way through to a points defeat... and in the end his persistence paid off. I think he showed plenty of balls that night.

Not "physically or mentally tough enough"? Jesus ****ing christ!

This. Leonard was an amazing fighter and one of the greatest during his time, but boxing in the 1910s and 20s was brutal. Leonard was too used to being pampered and catered to by the boxing authorities of the 80’s for me to see him adjusting to that time period.

This is the same Leonard that wanted all boxing gloves to go thumbless and was literally refusing to fight people if they wouldn’t use thumbless gloves. Leonard would’ve been laughed out of the sport of boxing if he made such ridiculous demands in the 1910s to 20s.

I see quite a few posters are questioning Leonard's heart and
determination. These opinions are so silly and without merit it's shameful.
He doesn't survive Montreal Duran, Hearn x2 Benitez
    and Hagler without those attributes....
One poster questions his heart because he didn't want to
fight without thumbless gloves..... Another silly opinion because
the man suffered a detached retina in an era when there was
a strong possibility if he fought again, he could suffer permanent
    blindness.
If you were in that position, and you were told thumbless gloves
would be your best option wouldn't you want them?
I do question would his body hold up under the stresses of fighters
of the past and the schedules they fought, but it's in no way am
I questioning his heart and determination.

The irony is, those same people would probably tell you that Leonard doesn't have a fraction of the heart or mental strength of the man who once broke down and surrendered his back to him because he was being taunted and didn't think he'd be able to win!

My ENTIRE point making this thread. And btw Leonard fought all those fights YOU listed after Duran 1 with HIS special rules. You can not deny that. And there would be no waiting till fighters get old. Read what this thread is about guys. You too Bukkake.

He would win the championship and probably lose it to a mauler. I don't know that he was durable enough to reign for long. Even in winning bouts there is a price to be paid.

The name calling AGAIN? Thought we were past that.
But I guess your not very intelligent so to hide that you resort to acting like a 10yr old.
But what " Special rules " are you pointing out?
And by the way, the Benitez fight was prior to Duran in Montreal, so I would guess the " special rules" your insinuating wouldn't apply to that fight right? What were the " Special rules" for Duran in New Orleans you know the fight Duran quit in, or the Hearns fights??? ( Fights,,,, Plural means more than one .) What special rules was used in the Kalule fight? What were they for Hagler? Waiting until a fighter got old ?
Who Hagler? The same Hagler that was fighting regularly while Leonard was out partying for 5yrs? Who SHOULD'VE been the more effective fighter? The active fighter or the inactive one?
Get past your hate for Leonard and your obnoxious personality, because it only hurts you....

    Namecalling? Who?
Duran 2- the not enough time to get in shape fact. A 24 foot ring. Still bigger than any I have ever seen. Learn yr facts boy. Having to keep telling u this stuff is boring. If yr head wasn't stuck up Snowman Leos ass you would KNOW he waited till Hag was done. Hag even told him at dinner before Mugabi.

Your just an idiot aren't you.... A little punk tough guy that's sits at home in your lonely dark place, in the only place in this world where you can talk hard.. Your family probably don't like you, you were probably abused sexually, mentally. And physically as a child so, as this adult now, with a low paying job. ( How you act, probably no more than $8.00 hrs , what I made 40yrs ago and is well beyond that now lol) You get on websites like this and talk like your Godzilla... I've seen literally thousands of jokes like you in my military and law enforcement career.
Your a COWARD Morlocks, a simple petty obnoxious COWARD who's only happiness is talking like your Godzilla over the internet..... What does it mean? You're Bambi.....

Just to put things in perspective, in a 22 month period, SRL fought four fights against ATGs (Benitez, Duran twice, Hearns), as well as Davey Boy Green, Larry Bonds, and Ayub Kalule. Yes, fighters fought a lot more often back in the day, but in any era four fights against ATGs in less than two years is tough competition.
